We don’t have a single confirmed case in PA but out of nowhere 5 schools were closed today due to some people in the district coming into contact with someone who has it.
Oh great. In Bucks County. Where I live.
Any word on who came in contact or where?

Total recovered= 55,497
Recovery rate numbers continue to outpace new infections and deaths combined.

tired of hearing about people not meeting testing criteria and then having it or areas most impacted still not doing widespread testing. CDC and state health departments needs to get their act together

How is it possible that they don’t know how long the virus survives on surfaces? The news keeps saying they don’t know that for sure yet.
Is that a more complicated question than it sounds? Can’t they swab the virus onto different surfaces and wait to test?

5 cases in Houston now, I predict we will see school closings by end of month.

The world passed 100,000 confirmed cases.
State and Local Emergency Declarations continue to expand.
The Netherlands death reportedly had no contact with known carriers.

The first sequence from Africa is up on Nextstrain and closely clusters with other cases that appear to be exported from Italy.
Toronto has now traced two independent cases back to Las Vegas, suggesting that there is probably a significant cluster in Vegas.

The husband lived with his partner at home before his admission. How he got infected is still unknown. He has not been on vacation in a contamination area, nor was he in contact with anyone who has been there.

I mean, he obviously had been near an infected person at some point.

Just read the issues with testing
We’ve had months to know this was coming. We’ve watched how this happens in multiple countries now. The virus clusters more than others, it leads to large outbreaks in specific areas (Daegu in SK, Lombardy in Italy, QoM in Iran).
Proactive testing to identify where the hotspot is, movement of resources to that area, and mitigation strategies in that specific area is what should be happening. That’s your best shot at preventing the healthcare system from being overwhelmed.

We literally have no idea what’s the infections are given the testing criteria being used (which appears to be shared by multiple European nations as well)
Recovery numbers outpacing deaths are good, but only confirm what we already know.

WHO offered corona test kits to CDC, CDC said no we have our own, then sent out test kits that didnt work, and made all new cases be shipped to Atlanta for central testing, adding days to the process.
Meanwhile because of the new backlog they are having to prioritize who gets tested because they don't have the capacity to test on a large scale. Not good.

Overly paranoid about false positives when false positives aren’t a bad thing in this scenario.
We should have been the gold standard for proactive testing with the resources we have. We already run more medical tests than anyone in the world but we are being shown up by SK.
