Imagine being in the 23 passengers between 10-19 on a cruise with 216 80+ year olds.
What? They probably had the entire ship to themselves from eight o'clock to five in the morning. Sounds like fun.

Netherlands reports first death from coronavirus; patient was 86 years old.
While corona affects mostly elders and majority of us are not in this group, it still sucks to think about it. Imagine that your 60+ minding your own business, spending whatever time you have left...and bam! This thing comes along and takes you out.

New story out of Rome, Georgia.
quote:
Full text of what we have this morning:
Late Thursday Floyd Medical Center received notification from the Georgia Department of Public Health that a patient a the hospital tested positive for novel coronavirus, COVID-19.
According to a Floyd Medical Center statement:
The 46-year-old woman was presented to the hospital's emergency room with flu like symptoms on Saturday, Feb. 29. She was screened according to CDC and GDPH protocol.
At that time she did not meet the testing criteria for COVID-19 or warrant hospitalization. On March 3 she returned to FMC with worsening symptoms ad further tests were completed. The Georgia Department of Public Health was notified and authorized her release.
"Despite the patient, again, not meeting COVID-19 screening criteria, Floyd clinicians made the determination to admit her to the hospital due to her condition," the statement read.
She was placed in isolation and further screening was conducted.
"At the adamant urging of the attending physician and District Health Director Dr. Gary Voccio, CDC and GDPH authorized the COVID-19 testing for the patient," the FMC statement read.
The preliminary test result was deemed positive.
"While we await final confirmation, Floyd has been advised by the GDPH to notify caregivers who treated this patient prior to isolation on Tuesday. In addition, although the risk of exposure is low, Floyd made the decision to proactively notify all patients who may have had contact with any of these caregivers or who may have been in the ER at the time the patient was present in order to instruct them on the next steps and address concerns."

This is going to be a complete and utter shite show. The entire CDC needs to be gutted.

Speaking of gutted, you aren’t going to want to check the market news today, or your 401k balance this evening.

25yrs until I’ll cash out, so not worried about it.
Want to feel not gutted, look up some flight and vacation prices right now.

I’m mostly trying to decide when I want to start DCA I’m back in.
Will this be dead in a month or a long slow burn?

In my non professional opinion, it will be a slow burn of spread, however not as deadly as the media is portraying.
Sounds like all med professionals being interviewed of late have come out and aligned on the notion of 85% of people show minimal to no symptoms and it’s akin to the annual flu outbreak.
Whether right or wrong, that seems to be the messaging and just to follow annual flu prevention guidelines.

This sort of stuff grinds my gears. How in the world do they just keep denying tests to symptomatic patients?
Oh yeah, because the CDC fricked up the tests.

This contradicts what is being reported/assumed so far.
Children getting it and suffering from it are two different things. I think his point is that they become super spreaders even if asymptomatic.

We don’t have a single confirmed case in PA but out of nowhere 5 schools were closed today due to some people in the district coming into contact with someone who has it.

And they were parading medical professionals 2 weeks ago that this was going to be as bad as 1918
It’s like they are offering a contrarian hot take to their own reporting and it doesn’t envoke much staying power to that message.
From a market perspective, if we start to get hit with story after story of nursing homes losing 5-10% of residents nationwide, I think you’ll see panic ramp up in spite of data that it’s more or less nothing to the average person.

With 5 cases in Houston now, I predict we will see school closings by end of month.

I’m tired of hearing about people not meeting testing criteria and then having it or areas most impacted still not doing widespread testing. CDC and state health departments needs to get their act together.

Unreal. There have been rumors of a case in Rome since the weekend around Atlanta.
Just crazy that word of mouth informed the public on a wide scale of a COVID case days before the CDC would even allow them to test...

I would do it now. This is only the beginning of this issue and they have proven they are incapable of handling it.
