I'm not liking all these stories of people coming in from Italy who aren't even being asked what part of the country they were in or if they even feel sick.

hungryone from this site returned on Sunday from Rome (not sure where else she was in Italy) and just walked off the plane and into the country like everything was normal.

With 5 cases in Houston now, I predict we will see school closings by end of month.

Spring Break weeks start for Texas next week. Some next week and some the week after.

Probably good timing to keep the disruption down.

Dallas and Fort Worth are using the Spring Break weeks to deep scrub schools and buses.

Yet people from all over the country will congregate together and swap bodily fluids, then return home the following week.

While true, they will not need to close schools just yet.

There should be a few million test kits out there by the time Spring Break wraps up, so we will get a chance to see where we are really at.

Several schools have closed over the Winter here for flu outbreaks.

Coronavirus testing still limited in Oregon despite expanded CDC guidelines For now, the state lab can only test about 40 people a day and officials say, on average, they are only testing about 10 to 20.

This is a fundamental error in the basics of what they should be doing.

Ohio still can't test at all, which explains why we have seen no cases yet. A handful have been sent off to the CDC and were negative. Supposedly testing will be up and running this weekend.

And it’s the leading candidate for a hotspot right now

Well, the good news is that if the tests never arrive no one can test positive.

How is it possible that they don’t know how long the virus survives on surfaces? The news keeps saying they don’t know that for sure yet.

Is that a more complicated question than it sounds? Can’t they swab the virus onto different surfaces and wait to test?

Reposting for Scruffy or other folks in the medical field.

I just don't understand this. Tell us how long it survives on surfaces at room temp please.

I wonder how many of the people passing away are smokers? Like say on that cruise ship. Elderly that have smoked, or had smoked for many years?

And everywhere else?

As for China, We all know that China has air issues and has been a terrible place to breathe air for decades.

And hundreds of millions of smokers in China. I think them and India account for a huge majority of the world's smokers.

Well that is Oregon and they are a clusterfrick of a state.

Texas will have this thing rolling shortly. Dallas and Tarrant county will each be able to test 100 a day and grow from there.

The media has stated 9 days. They also told us there is a 3.8% chance you will die from it.

I will never forget going on a pretty tame 1.1M hike up a little hill with a couple dozen Chinese kids in their early to mid 20s in Fiji eight years ago. You would’ve thought they were going up K2 with the amount of rest stops and obvious fatigue the exhibited. It was pretty crazy to me how poorly conditioned these seemingly young able bodied (not obese) people were.

I don't think that is known, but I found this article that does a nice job of explaining the general subject of viruses "survival" on surfaces in layman's terms.

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/science/how-long-do-cold-and-flu-viruses-stay-contagious-on-public-surfaces

SARS-CoV-2 is an enveloped virus.
