BREAKING: I am announcing a new directive requiring NY health insurers to waive cost sharing associated with testing for #coronavirus, including emergency room, urgent care and office visits.
We can't let cost be a barrier to access to COVID-19 testing for any New Yorker.
Sounds like the govt forcing a private company to eat the costs associated with testing

Basically he’s telling them that all coronavirus testing is to be treated as preventative care and 100% covered, aka free.
He also just put a big arse bullseye on his ERs getting buried with every kid with the sniffles.
If someone’s normal kinds of sick can they pop in get tested and get a lot of the visit covered even if something else?
Feels like it’s a disastrous policy
And then when nyc is the epicenter purely because they’ve tested the most is the city in a better spot?

Don’t forget the fact that the ERs will turn into zoos containing both infected and uninfected in close proximity.

Wonder if he has family in the pharm industry, or holds stock himself in whomever is making the kits.

Every ghetto dweller is gonna make a trip to the er with even the first sneeze fo free. They already do it, but now they're encouraged to. I feel bad for their nurses and drs.

It sounds like you’ll still get charged an office visit but just not be tested for the cost of the test.

Well at the news conference they said they were waving rules that would allow private companies to develop the test kits... So I don’t doubt hand are in pockets.

It literally says the cost of the visit is to be waived.
Additional care might not be, but the act of seeing medical personnel, getting a sample taken, and tested is intended to be free.

If anything, this virus clearly shows how fricked up our healthcare system is.

How so? What exactly has the healthcare system done thus far?
If you’re talking about the screw up from the start, thank the CDC for that one.

Gov. Edwards expects coronavirus to hit Louisiana, some people self-isolating
quote:
JBE said about two dozen people in Louisiana have self-isolated themselves in their homes for 14 days. They had recently traveled to places where large numbers of people were infected by the virus.

This was expected. CNY almost equal to Mardi Gras.

The guy is saying that aside from a quick fever and then nagging cough, he feels perfectly fine and could easily be working.
This. Carl Goldman has said that he spiked a fever but it retreated; it was only 103 degrees for a bit and when it came back, it was low grade. Then he has a cough and was tired for a few days but it wasn't so bad that he would have skipped work.
So he sounds like the majority of people who have jobs and feel a little under the weather.

By cost sharing I assume he means copays and deductibles. The insurance company will still pay their portion of the visit but the patients portion (copay/deductible) is waived.
So the hospital collects something, it’s not a total loss.

I think you're spot on. Insurance companies will pay their negotiated portion as per their contracts, but the hospitals will have to just eat the patient's share, whatever that may be depending on their plan.

He doesn’t want someone to not go in and get tested for COVID because they have a $2,000 deductible. Healthy young patients will be the most likely in that situation.
They are also the most likely to be asymptomatic spreaders so it’s important that they are identified.

Yeah, I actually met my deductible for once so I'd get tested if I thought I had it. However, if I hadn't met my deductible, there's no way I'd go spend several thousand dollars to find out unless I was unable to breathe.
