imported from Italy,
Our 2 (live together) in Atlanta just recently arrived from Italy. At least they called the Dr. and said y’all need to come by the house so we won’t go out in public.
We are going to see traces back to Italy from the US and other countries over the next few days as more sequences come in to Nextstrain. As soon as researchers get access to samples from Iran and Egypt, we will those traces popping up.
Where do you restrict travel from?

As a fellow Atlantan it’s not good. It sounds like they are on top of the case at least.

Because it's THIS year. So it's currently happening.

Anything yet from Hawaii or Las Vegas? You would figure that those two places would have some issues by now

About 15% of the American people will not be quarantined. They will fight if you try. If they’re not bringing in the military, it’s not even worth discussing a quarantine.

Quarantines will only happen in Wuhan type situations if you have a massive breakout in a large city IMO. In that situation most people would probably be quarantining themselves voluntarily.
China did that to control the source and slow the spread before the entire city collapsed into chaos. We can’t stop it now, we can only slow it down enough to manage it.

It’s amazing to me to hear people talking about quarantining areas. They have no idea of the resources that would take. The majority of Baton Rouge police don’t even live in the parish. They will be the first to go home a quarantine would be a two week vacation.

What’s to keep a true believer from using this virus as a bio weapon and going through a crowded mall coughing and hacking corona everywhere

Because there is probably an easier way to kill 2% of the people he would infect, if that’s the goal. And they are probably going to get it from somewhere else anyway.

So I haven’t seen a treatment plan for this??? What is it? Advil and fluids? Oxygen if needed??

I have heard that 1 from Hawaii will be declared soon.

I have the coronavirus. It isn’t that bad
That's Mr. Carl Goldman. He's been blogging his experience in isolation.
His latest blog here.
I strongly recommend you read all his entries. They're a good read.
It looks like since his symptoms were mild all they have given him was advil, gatorade, and vitamins. Seems like he could have just self quarantined and had the same results.

Some folks are scared, some are not. The ones who aren’t seem to be way more fun to be around.

He probably could have. If he hadn't spiked a fever on the plane ride back, he might have just thought it was a sore/dry throat and a cough.
But here's some potential good news; it looks like we might be reaching a point where flu season starts to drop off which means less flu hospitalizations:

Uh, because a pandemic is the biggest news in the world right now. No need to panic (yet) but you can't honestly be surprised that this thread is popular.

Yup and possibly less, as the mall would be predominantly younger crowd.
Man, China’s bio weapon sucks arse. I’ve seen better bio weapons in the quad.

It’s not a bio weapon.
But let’s assume it was. What better way to test the level of control you have in engineering it than to design it to take out a certain demographic with near-surgical precision? For the test run, they picked what was, to them, the most “humane” demographic to test it on.....the elderly. When they release the real deal, it will be far deadlier and they now know they can pretty much target any group of people they want to.
But, it’s not a bio weapon, so all of the above is bunk.
