I fear Atlanta will get ravaged by this virus

We just had our first case here in Spokane... Was hoping that it wouldn't make it here

Here's a question... while children aren't seemingly affected by the virus, can they still get it and spread it asymptomatically? Was having lunch with my sister and there was a very irresponsible couple letting their rugrat cough all over the place. Am I doomed?

Chill with that. Coronavirus is certainly worth paying attention to and taking precautions against (primarily practicing good hygiene), but it isn't the Black Death or something.

This is the theory behind closing schools.
Mom gives little Timmy coronavirus. Little Timmy goes to school and gives it to every other kid sneezing on each other at the playground. They all go home and infect their parents.

China's National Health Commission reported 11 new cases of coronavirus outside Hubei province on Monday. Of those, 7 were "imported from Italy," according to local officials
Look for a lot of imported cases from Europe to start showing up in the US. Does anyone know if Mardi Gras is popular with Italians? That is probably a serious concern right now for New Orleans officials?

I’m not sure I fully trust that statement from China. I’ve tried to keep an open mind but to imagine that they are importing most cases from Italy but didn’t have any significant number of cases get out of Hubei after the Chinese New Year?
Maybe they are slowly weaving their story that they got this thing under control but the rest of the world dropped the ball.

Anyone know of a version of this map that differentiates between repatriated cases and import/community? Probably would be good to add to the OP?
Posted on 3/2/20 at 9:35 pm to rds dc
Yeah because all 11 in Texas and the 13 in Neb are repatriated... Then what, 30 or so in Cali?
Posted on 3/2/20 at 9:37 pm to WaWaWeeWa
The state media is probably already telling people this virus started outside China. It’s what that government does

imported from Italy,
Our 2 (live together) in Atlanta just recently arrived from Italy. At least they called the Dr. and said y’all need to come by the house so we won’t go out in public.

I don't know, members of the WHO party that traveled to China have said that the quarantine and control measures that they observed in China were barbaric, disturbing, not transferable to other countries but effective. I've seen several of them comment that they were highly skeptical of the official numbers from China but that they now believe that the spread was temporally halted in China. However, they don't see the measures being sustainable and expect for another wave of COVID19 to spread across China at some point.

Props to them for taking that type of precaution

Why is this thread so long? This will be forgotten this time next year.
