I’m now hearing reports on Twitter that the virus has JUMPED species into dogs, which causes them to aggressively attempt to spread the virus.

Tell me again how this wasn’t engineered?

Love it.

I think the Diamond Princess is probably the best case study so far.

Chloroquine showing positive results according to this article

quote:

In the trials, the groups of patients who had taken the drug have shown better indicators than their parallel groups, in abatement of fever, improvement of CT images of lungs, the percentage of patients who became negative in viral nucleic acid tests and the time they need to do so, she said. Patients taking the drug also take a shorter time to recover, she added. Sun gave an example of a 54-year-old patient in Beijing, who was admitted to the hospital four days after showing symptoms. After taking the drug for a week, he saw all indicators improve and the nucleic acid turn negative.

So far, no obvious serious adverse reactions related to the drug have been found among the over 100 patients enrolled in the clinical trials, she said. The expert team, led by Zhong Nanshan, a renowned respiratory specialist and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, agreed that chloroquine phosphate can be used to treat more COVID-19 patients, Sun said.

Previous in vitro experiments showed that it can block virus infections by changing the acidity and basicity value inside the cell and interfering receptors of SARS coronavirus. It also shows immune-modulating activity, which may enhance its antiviral effect in vivo and is widely distributed in the whole body, including the lungs, after oral administration.

I mean the statistician in me would love to have an experiment on a large cruise ship.

Match demographics with the real world.

Have 4 ships, two with great medical care, two with awful medical care.

Would need more ships for replicates but you know frick ethics thatd be interesting to see the results

You are wrong.

It's not a good indicator of how contagious the virus is but it will give a great idea of the number of mild cases, critical cases, and mortality rate. If you can control of confounding variables like age.

I'm guessing your theory as to why the mortality rate will fall is because there are mild cases that haven't been diagnosed. This isn't possible on the cruise ship, everyone is monitored and accounted for.

Only caveat is that the Diamond Princess has an older average age. So the numbers there could be inflated. and the China numbers could also be inflated by an overwhelmed healthcare system in Wuhan.

Given the proclivities of this virus, that’s an awfully big caveat.

On average, passengers age 55 and above account for over half of clients on a cruise.

If anything, given the stacked deck and the critical case rate being only 5% is part of why I feel comfortable taking such a mocking tone.

I'll bet you money they aren't going to be talking negatively about Eric Holder's recent Tweet about how he doesn't think the Trump administration will do enough to combat this (as if a travel ban is nothing).

A case report would break down the age demographics. It’s also early as only 10 pts are reported as recovered.

I think it’s clearly the best chance at identifying an accurate mortality rate as everyone on the cruise was screened.
