African preparedness:

Two labs (one in Senegal the other in South Africa) are the testing labs for the whole continent. Four countries in the Ebola area have just announced they can run tests.
There are 10,000 Chinese companies in Africa and 80,000 african students in Chinese universities.
According to Chinese state media, more than one million Chinese nationals live in African countries.
There are also more than 80,000 African students in China, often attracted by government scholarships, reports the Guardian. A 21-year-old student from Cameroon was reported to have contracted the virus after a trip to Wuhan and is being treated in hospital.

Can anyone confirm if Slackster is still alive or is he sent to a Chinese Prison Camp?
Wrapping up Valentine's day dinner with the wife and kiddos.
I see y'all are back to being giddy and salivating about China numbers and can't explain the international ones once again...
Lemme guess - "It's still early. It will be a few weeks/month/months before we know the truth outside of China."
The part that cracks me up the most is y'all are sure China is under-reporting and the numbers are far worse in mainland China, but that makes the international numbers that much harder to explain.
Is the rest of the world in on the conspiracy?

21st century bubonic plague
this is my concern.
I´m sure someone spoke about it earlier in this thread. The English dumbfrick who merrily carried on to Singapore, then England, should be shot. Bastard infected 20 plus.

I googled, can´t find it now. I believe this was Wednesday, maybe yesterday. He´s quarantined in London now, I believe. I think he was a banker with home office in Singapore, was in China for work, got infected, went back to Singapore (likely unassumingly infected), then off to London.
It was a French or Spanish info feed.

Look for French news. I´m sorry. He went to the French alps to ski, straight from Singapore. He infected people at his resort. He may be quarantined in France, and not London, don´t remember.

There has been some back and forth about asymptomatic transmission... it looks like the CDC confirmed it can be transmitted asymptomatically.

Coronavirus can be spread through people who aren’t exhibiting symptoms of the illness, the director of the Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention said Thursday. Dr. Robert Redfield confirmed reports out of China that the virus can spread when the person is still asymptomatic, according to CNN.

There are nine more people in Japan, not on the Diamond Princess ship, who have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the Japanese Mistry of Health, Labour, and Welfare said Saturday. One person is a surgeon in his 50s who works at same hospital where another doctor tested positive earlier, in Wakayama Prefecture. Eight others are in Tokyo. Seven of them had close contact with a taxi driver who was found to be infected, the ministry said.
With all the elderly in Japan, this thing may really do some damage. They are already so short staffed for caretakers if elderly. From a cold perspective, it could actually solve some of their problems.

Add a confirmed death in Paris France
An 80 year old Chinese man.
Ms Buzyn said the man who died in the Bichat hospital in Paris was a Chinese tourist from Hubei who arrived in France on January 16. He had been in isolation since January 25 and died of a lung infection.
“His condition deteriorated rapidly and for several days he had been in a critical state,” she said, adding that he was “the first person to have died from the coronavirus outside Asia, and the first death in Europe”.
Ms Buzyn said the man’s daughter had also been hospitalised with the virus, but her condition was not worrying and she was expected to be released soon.
What worries me is that it took him a long time to die. That means that a bed was occupied for three weeks.

Only 11 cases in all have been reported in France, one of them a doctor, but four have already recovered and the condition of the remaining six are not a cause of concern.

Coronavirus infections have also been discovered in various east Asian cities, including Singapore and Thailand, as well as in the US and Europe. Egypt announced the first case in Africa on Friday.

Japan reports 8 new cases with 7 linked to a taxi driver. It seems that this virus has taken hold in both Singapore and Japan now. I wonder what the game plan is going to be for the Olympics?

US will evacuate 428 Citizens from Diamond Princess to near Sacramento
The evacuees will enter a 14 day quarantine. Those who chose to stay in Japan were told that they would have a wait before re-entry to the US would be allowed.

Once again, every time you post things like this, it takes away from the useful insight and information that you post.
No one is giddy. You look almost as ridiculous as this:

So still fitting the same narrative for deaths outside of China, either elderly or directly from the area... honestly surprised nobody else has succumb to it.

This. Reasonable criticism of a claim is welcomed, but you don’t have to be a tool about it.
It’s possible the Barrons article is wrong. It would have been nice if they had posted more info if it’s a simple trend line, but it wouldn’t be surprising if China is blatantly lying.

It’s progression is very odd indeed. Based on what the Chinese reported, you would think it would have taken off by now in other areas. Guess what happens in SG and Japan the next week or so will give some better insight.

Not excited about this at all. We have already had 130 quarantined there and now another 400+. I wonder what hospital will receive any potential infections should a febrile pt arise?
