A friend is overseas in the region and they just increased the threat level in his area. He's now scrolling thru tinder to find the best option to come to his room in a resort for the near future.

His region is still low as far as confirmed cases go, though.

Didn't you criticized posters in this thread for thinking this will be bigger than SARS?

This information is incorrect. There aren't anywhere close to 400MM people locked down in China.
Since there are no official numbers from China, it's your word against the internet

Yea but it doesn’t matter because the flu kills more people. That’s the threshold for caring about anything.

About 10x worse than the seasonal flu that tends to stress our medical system. While not an apocalyptic event, an epidemic in the states would be really bad.
*of confirmed cases. It's basically useless to use percentages and rates of confirmed cases and try to compare it to estimates that are made for the seasonal flu.
If you look at confirmed season flu cases, it appears much more severe and deadly. The CDC only has ~250k confirmed flu cases a year. The rest are estimates.

I criticized people freaking out about this who didn't even remember SARS.

The tweet you posted has a lot of people questioning her number and asking for proof, FWIW.

Reading on other forums of people on cruise ships in China that are being held on the ship, made to stay in their cabins, and have food brought to them to try to minimize the spread.
That would be turrible.

But criticize people for not believing communist China's official case and death count?
Ok sure

China's handling of SARS was atrocious, yet it was still contained and eradicated. Now China is taking unprecedented steps to stop this and people on here want to act like this will be worse than SARS.
It wasn't that you're wrong. It's how you seemed so confident in chastising others.

More kids died in the US from the flu this year than there are confirmed coronavirus cases in the US, but feel free to be worried about the latter.

Was I wrong? I thought the almighty fatality rate was all that matters. SARS killed nearly 10% of the confirmed cases, ergo, it's worse than this, right?

Educate yourself.
I went to the source of the tweet. The source of the tweet is a blogger/YouTuber from New York. She says she sourced the number from official Chinese reports. Those reports actually have ~175MM people under "lockdown", which =/= quarantined.
There are 57MM people under quarantine and 174MM under lockdown (one person per house can leave to get provisions ever two days, but you're free to leave to go to work or for medical reasons).

It’s not mandatory to report all cases of influenza to the cdc. To say we only have 250k confirmed cases is not accurate. Every little quick care center can run a rapid flu test. I don’t think the cdc has access to all that data. They extrapolate what data they have from participating clinics. It’s probably fairly accurate.

I'll see what I can do. TBH I dont believe they're homemade from scratch or anything. Sorry to pull back the curtain
Often the wrappers are bought, and the filings are added at home. Does she prefer steamed or fried?
