Der Spiegel sent reporters to Wuhan to walk around and see what was happening

The link above is to the story of what they did and didn't see and how they made it out of the city just as the city was closing off all transit possibilities.

I am VERY surprised that HK’s numbers haven’t skyrocketed.

Why?

That post is incredibly misleading. Taiwan hasn't had a confirmed case in a couple days. Of those 621 pneumonia cases, more than half of them have already been ruled out for coronavirus.

BC HK is the financial center of Asia and accessible by train from mainland.

What was it, 10k flew into HK from mainland? I’d be 2-3 times that took trains, yet HK has not reported numbers even the slight bit eye opening.

China has clamped down on social media. Haven't been pictures of people fainting in the streets. IF it goes viral in another country it may pick up again

I love the contrarians in these types of threads who have to be the first to downplay it.

It’s way too early to say one way or another.

Looks like S Korea has its first human to human transmission.

Also 6,000 people are being kept on a cruise ship in Italy because someone is showing signs.

India has its first confirmed case.

Novel Coronavirus Cases in China Pass SARS at Its Peak

quote:

Nearly 6000 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) have been reported in China, according to World Health Organization numbers released on Wednesday. The outbreak has officially surpassed the 2002–2003 outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) coronavirus, which totaled 5327 cases in China, the Associated Press reports.

Over 9200 additional novel coronavirus cases in China are suspected, the WHO reports. There have been 132 related deaths, all in China. Outside of China, 68 cases have been confirmed. A WHO committee will reconsider whether to declare a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on Thursday.

Yeah, we're past SARS cases in China, and we'll probably pass SARS cases worldwide today (8,098).

Still don't believe we'll pass SARS deaths (774), but we'll see.

Plus, this entire thing shows that the world is screwed if a virus that is worse happens. Instead of downplaying it we should feel really lucky.

Africa

You would think there would be more news coming out of China's colonies of cases involving the native populations. Ebola seems to be the only virus that you hear about killing Africans in the country-side, but the cities are pretty densely populated.
