Question: is it known if a person can get covid-19 more than once? Or do the antibodies prevent that?

Can you get the flu more than once?

There is your answer.

Ok.

Regardless, at this point I'm of the opinion that all restrictions should end. If someone wants to stay in quarantine then stay in quarantine. Other than that if you get you get it. It's starting to look like this virus isn't going away anytime soon.

ETA who knows maybe hundreds of millions or even billions of people have already had it.

Haven't seen anyone truly getting it more than once, some people test positive again but it is just the dead virus and not a new infection. With that said, nobody knows how long immunity will last.

If our governor was serious about COVID he would be shutting the border now with Texas

I was suggesting more on a “flu season” type basis. And this is the first season of Covid-19 /SARS2. However you prefer to designate this new corona virus.

I guess we will see.

Virus itself = SARS-CoV-2 (I often use SARS 2.0 )

Disease caused by SARS 2.0 = CoviD-19.

As some of us discussed yesterday, would not be surprised if this ends up being another "common cold" coronavirus when it's all said and done.

This is a pretty detailed account of how immunity might work with this virus. If you’re interested it’s a good read. It touches on some of the topics that have been discussed here regarding possible T-cell immunity.

Its not rocket surgery. All you have to do is look at the places that have been hit hard, both here and abroad. What you see is a sharp inverted V spike followed by a big drop-off in deaths. Hell, look at Sweden which never even locked down. That wouldn't be happening in all these places if the infected weren't getting substantial immunity.

Now how long that lasts may be another question.

But people have latched onto a recently published study that says antibodies are no longer present after two months. This is being interpreted as meaning there is also no longer any immunity. That’s not necessarily true. It’s much more complicated than that.

Understood. My post wasn't really directed at you. Just the suggestions we keep getting that immunity may not happen at all.

WaWa, Can you explain why we don't have evidence of immunity yet? Eg. We have pts who we know were infected in China back in December...why do we not know the status of their circulating IGg and IGm antibodies? Shouldn't we have clear evidence by now if this is a one and done like Varicella or if this will behave cyclically like flu? When I search for a JAMA study or something reputable I can find nothing...do you know?
