It was 75 in Chicago yesterday and half of the city was out walking around, people are not going to stay inside when the weather is nice and numbers are low.

You know, I just want to say that I find it funny how quickly people on this board have gone from “we can’t open anything up” to “we need to open things back up again to avoid economic collapse”.
Not you in particular, Cat, but just the general consensus feeling on here.
It has shifted heavily over the past week, hell, past few days.

You could be right, but I'm not sure about that yet. I made a few quick excel charts and the main curve that I see flattening, using data from the Covid Tracking Project, is the growth curve of number of US tests performed per day. At a time when our ability to test is supposedly increasing, the rate of growth in testing is declining. If that were due to fewer positive tests it might make sense (although I'd prefer to broaden the testing base and continue to ramp up), but the percentage of positives looks to be gradually trending higher. Hopefully this social isolation experiment will actually "flatten the curve" soon, but with the lag in testing growth that's hard to say for sure yet.
As far as the rest of your post, I agree that the lockdowns will start to lose effectiveness, unless effectiveness is perversely measured in terms of how much economic damage is about to ensue from a prolonged nationwide work stoppage and global trade slowdown. We're approaching, maybe past the point where big trouble begins to waft out of the festering sores in our economy that most people never notice until they start to smell bad.

If you still think leaving the country open completely all along was a good idea, you're clearly not that smart.
But go ahead and jerk yourself off with the "I told you so" chest thumping.

That's been the biggest short coming in a lot of areas. In my area alone to be tested you have to call and leave a message. A nurse calls you back with questions. If she deems it necessary she gets a second call made to you by a doctor and then after more questions he decides if you were at risk enough for a test. I have been in your camp since this started and I still am but testing needs to get better. It may be adequate in some cities or some states but I am guessing it's not good enough.

I can make no claim that what I state is the definitive choice to make or prove it is the correct one.
Merely a statement that public opinion is likely starting to shift.
Fear of the economy is starting to dominate fear of the virus, IMO, especially outside of heavily hit areas.

Thanks brother and I hate that about your mom. I know my parents smoked when I was a child and I hated it. I would go to school smelling like smoke and have to ride in the backseat and have smoke in my face every time we went anywhere. Forget about watching television in the living room with them. It's one reason I didn't subject my kids to it because I remember how I felt as a kid. It's tough. I had a much easier time getting clean than I did with tobacco.

I still think May 1 we star to re-open while continuing social distancing and capacity restrictions in buildings.

I think it will be:
Wear masks
No groups of larger than 10
Retail abides by the 6ft rule on the floor (like grocery stores are currently)
Movie Theaters, sports, large gatherings still on hold.

I agree with you. Testing is inadequate at the moment. Plus, we cannot open things back up if Facebook grandmas are making PPE.

Surely things will be ok before summer. If teams can't put together some sort of summer training for players you won't see college football this year. They can't expect to be in playing shape in just a short fall camp type deal.
Don't get me wrong, saving lives is more important than college football but if we don't have football this year, it is gonna suck.
