Should have been done a week ago

I think its cute that you are an apologist for a totalitarian Communist government that imprisons its own citizens if they speak out.
Not at all. I wish the US would sever ties with them. But what does that have to do with their response being “inept” in containing the outbreak.
What do you gain from the story coming out before the government has decided on a response?
Even more people fleeing the area? It’s not like the virus’s existence was a secret, and they were pretending it didn’t exist.
Weren’t you attacking them for that number as it was that they “allowed to leave”
The sudden roll out of actions is a consequence of the delay.
Do you realize that such a thing at scale probably wouldn’t even be legally allowable in the US?
And as stated earlier in the thread, frick both of y’all for making me defend them because you are ignorant of the objective reality there.

I'd rather have a transparent government, competent policymakers, and well-supported medical professionals who don't have to rely on bribes to make a decent living.
Also, let's not glorify the "isolation of cities and travel restrictions." This isolation is only occurring because corrupt government officials refused to acknowledge the problem in the first place. Journalists have already well established that the regional government in Hubei had several weeks to act, and a variety of political pressures compelled them to pretend that nothing terrible was happening. And at this point, just about every medical professional who understands the crisis is saying that the isolation is too little, too late. Person to person transmission is already present in every Chinese city.
Anyone who understands the deeply regional politics of China knows that this isolation isn't being done to protect average Chinese citizens. If the Chinese government truly cared about its citizens, it would have blocked off travel to Hong Kong several days ago. The isolation to protect monied interests in Beijing and Shanghai and convey the impression that the government is in control.
I agree with all of this and I suspect Vol does as well.

That’s the whole point. You don’t have a clue what’s going on over there right now except what thier government wants us to know. They are live streaming thier impressive construction project yet they’ve pretty much banned all other media coming out of the city. They’ve rejected our offer to send in people to help. But lets defend those numbers theyre reporting.

Coronavirus update:
- 5,572 confirmed cases
- 131 fatalities
- 1,109 in serious/critical condition
- Majority of cases in China
- 59 international cases
- 15 countries reporting cases
Not quite as big a jump in case numbers as I was expecting.

You're an idiot. The government did jail people for trying to publicize the existence of the virus - for several weeks. Their lack of action is directly responsible for the massive spread of the disease.
You know absolutely zero about China. I personally know university scientists in both Hong Kong and China who have been frustrated as hell by the lack of action by the Chinese government from late-November to mid-January.
These belated, idiotic attempts at regional isolation that you're so in love with do very, very little at this stage to prevent the spread of the virus. The virus has already spread to major cities in China, and the government is mainly trying to control public anger and the potential for mass protest.
Oh, and let me add one more thing. China has a severely underfunded medical system. All of the wealthy Chinese go to other countries for their medical care, so they couldn't care less if there is a shortage of doctors and medical supplies in Wuhan. If anything, the isolation is their way of consolidating resources in the areas that "matter." Read this article and start to get a clue about the situation on the ground:

So you don’t trust the Chinese government in general but believe what they say about this event?
That’s an odd position but whatevs.

Jesus. Stop the arguments. Who cares if he believes or disbelieves the Chinese government. Can we just continue with the discussion of the virus news and info? This bickering has gone on for pages...

If I'm North Korea I'm dumping my nuclear program for biological warfare. Develop a virus with a long incubation period, drop it off in China, kick back and watch the World fly it around.

Did I hear correctly that the CDC is questioning the validity of the virus passing prior to symptoms being present?
Could have swore I saw that on a news briefing earlier.
