It absolutely matters. The next Mayor President will have 2 major tasks as it relates to STG.
1, to drop or continue the lawsuit against STG. What is his position on the lawsuit. It matters. What is his position? Understandably, he's not a party in the lawsuit specifically, but the Mayor Presidents tone and language on this will absolutely be relevant to the courts.
2, how would he conduct himself in negotiations with STG on the myriad of issues that need to be hammered out? His loyalty is to the City of Baton Rouge, NOT the City of STG, and you are naive if you think he will negotiate in good faith for the benefit of STG.
Yeah, you're right. I could have worded that better. But to your point, his interview with Kiran Chawla as well as his opinion on St George posted on his website appears to say that he will get out of the way, let the voters have what they decided, and work diligently to move the two sides together as best he can. He actively posts this stance on the St George FB page. Watson is going to be the best candidate for St George besides maybe Carter. Wicker seems like a good candidate for that cause too. The others, not so much.

This isn’t the presidency, it’s for the mayor of Baton Rouge. Taking some shite admin job isn’t a way to vault yourself into a higher office or position. SWB is standing in the way of where Marcelle wants to be. She’ll cut her throat if she must.
Hey, I hope I'm wrong and you're right. I would love to see SWB and Marcelle go at each other and increase the odds for the others in the running.

C Denise Marcelle got over 25k votes last time. She's only gotten stronger. SWB has lost some black support. Denise is going to paint her as not having done anything for the black community. And some people will fall for that line of thinking.
With some moderate black vote going to Tara, away from SWB, and some left leaning angry black vote going to Marcelle, away from SWB, I'm telling you that SWB is NOT a lock for the runoff spot.
With the amount of credible candidates in the race this time around vs 2016 field, 35k votes is enough for a runoff spot.
6 of the 7 candidates will get double digits. Last time, only 3 did. This race is going to be fun to watch.

quote:Jordan should be careful. Things could get personal against him, and it wouldn't go over well. He doesn't have a shiny record himself, and there are a few family members that aren't happy with his decision to run. They feel like the family has been through enough.
It's supposedly personal in nature. We'll see, or we won't. Politics is a nasty game!

Why did Carter wait until the very last minute to enter?

He had looked at the race and wasn't going to run. He told Watson and Piazza he wasn't running.
Then Gloria told him he was, he got in the car, and the rest is history. So there ya go.

So Piazza's advisor has withdrawn the lawsuit.
Cormier's lawsuit to disqualify Watson still exists.
Business Report
quote:
Withdrawn: Adam Hensgens, a consultant with ties to mayoral hopeful Jordan Piazza, has withdrawn a lawsuit he filed seeking to disqualify mayoral candidate Matt Watson, according to a statement Hensgens released this morning. In a petition filed Tuesday in 19th Judicial District Court, Adam Hensgens alleged that Watson, a Metro Council member, violated both the code of governmental ethics and state campaign finance laws by failing to disclose that at the time he qualified for the mayor’s race on July 24 he had several outstanding fines from the Louisiana Ethics Administration.

This thread is rolling now. Nice to see the OT using logical thought for a change. Let’s keep it going.

Anyone know where to get a copy of Cormier's lawsuit?

Interesting might be a better word, this isn’t a slam dunk for anyone right now.

Anyone have an idea what voter turnout will be in EBR for this election?
I tried finding a number for the 2016 for just the EBR Presidential, but it only showed total votes and didn’t give % of registered or eligible voters.
60-70% sound right back then?
Considering the stakes both nationally and locally, shouldn’t we expect it to be even higher this year?

I wouldn’t think it would be higher. Everyone knows Trump will win Louisiana. I’d say it’s the same amount of folks as last time. Trump fired up a bunch to go vote both for and against him. He will do the same with the same people this time around.

Some rich republican backers should rent all the busses out so NBR doesn't have as many voters. Pull the ole Parks and Recreations scam.

190,933 votes cast in the Nov '16 general election for Mayor President.
115,058 votes cast in the Dec '16 runoff election for Mayor President.
67.8% turnout in the general and 39.6% turnout in the runoff.

Those numbers prove a good conservative candidate can win provide they can get their vote out. In 2016 Bodi could not.

In 2016, people thought SWB was more moderate than she was and either voted her or stayed home.
If they knew what a shite show she would be, Bodi would have won.
A lot of power players, in hindsight, would rather have had Bodi reconcile with the St George area than SWB frick up and cause the incorporation to happen.

Eh
His loyalty is also to EBR, which St.G is going to be part of. He probably wouldn't try to run roughshod over St. George.
From what I've read he seems ready to allow the people of St. George their own city as they voted on, and wants to work together.

GOP figures Lane Grigsby, Eddie Rispone donate to Democrat Tara Wicker in mayor's race
quote:
Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome has raised significantly more than her challengers in her bid for reelection, with nearly $300,000 of cash on-hand, campaign finance reports show, and one challenger, Democratic Councilwoman Tara Wicker, has raised $75,000 thanks in part to donations from several prominent Republicans.
Wicker received $7,500 from conservative mega-donor Lane Grigsby and his wife Bobbi. She also took in $10,000 from former GOP gubernatorial candidate Eddie Rispone and his wife Linda.
quote:
Councilman Matt Watson, a Republican, raised roughly $52,000 in the last three months and has spent $35,000, leaving him with $17,200 with 90 days to go until Election Day.
quote:
Former GOP State Rep. Steve Carter made a last-minute, surprise entry into the mayor-president race and reported raising zero dollars for his campaign so far. He entered the race with roughly $20,000 available from previous races.
quote:
Jordan Piazza, the owner of Uncle Earl's Bar, raised $35,350 and has lent himself an additional $21,700. He has $5,700 on-hand and has spent $52,000 since the end of April, more than any other candidate running for mayor-president. That includes a $15,000 retainer for political consultant Roy Fletcher.
quote:
Grigsby, a Baton Rouge contractor, said in an interview with The Advocate that he believed Wicker demonstrated the "skill set and aptitude" as a council member that "qualified her for a promotion."
Grigsby backed Carter last year in his failed bid for a seat in the state Senate, but said that in this election he doesn't plan to support anyone but Wicker. He said he was "startled" by Carter's eleventh-hour entry into the race.

That's why you don't leave it to chance.
Democrats lie about who they are to gain power, then pander and please enough morons to stay in power.
