Sounds like what happened was the farmer grabbed his rifle to put the bull down but didn't tell the officers ahead of time. One of the officers suddenly noticed, got nervous and grabbed the farmer. The gun went off, and the two officers started blazing away instinctively thinking the farmer was trying to shoot them.

Never pull out a weapon in front of LEO without making sure you have permission to do so.

Jeez. What a bunch of sadistic assholes. One shot to the head and it's over for the ol' boy.

Only way to stop these incidents are to make it mandatory for all LEO to wear body cameras. This will remove the he said she said and also remind the LEO they are always being watched.
Except they were wearing body cameras. Article says they don't' know if they were "on".

Here are some left out parts. To sum it up, they told him to come kill the bull, then shot him at the moment he was pulling the trigger. Then, they just stood around watching a gut shot bull die
quote:

An Adams County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher called. One of the family’s bulls had just been hit by a car on the highway, and the Yantises needed to go take care of it.
quote:

Jack Yantis told Paradis to get a rifle, the family’s skid-steer loader (a small front-end loader) and a chain. Paradis in turn asked his aunt to the get the family’s .204-caliber rifle and bring it to the road.

Yantis took a small all-terrain vehicle, in this case a four-wheeler, down the driveway and parked it on the highway facing the animal.
quote:

While Paradis was getting the skid loader, the deputies started shooting at the bull.
quote:

Paradis drove the skid loader down the driveway and parked on the highway. The bull was lying on the pavement. Donna Yantis had walked the rifle to her husband. Jack Yantis was standing about 4 feet from the bull, aiming the rifle at the back of the bull’s head. His back was to the two deputies, who were standing in the far lane facing each other as if they were having a conversation.

“I put the (skid loader’s) lights on him and the bull, and he lined up to shoot the bull in the back of head and put him out humanely,” Paradis said.
quote:

The rifle’s barrel was about 2 feet from the bull, and Jack Yantis’ finger was on the trigger.

“Everything was going as planned. … I did not notice any conversation at all” between Jack Yantis and the deputies, Paradis said. “Then the one cop turned around and grabbed his shoulder and jerked him backwards.”
quote:

Meanwhile, the bull was still alive, slowly bleeding out on the roadway. Family members asked the deputies to put it down to end its suffering. No one did.

“The bull ended up lying there for two hours,” Paradis said, “suffocating in his own lung blood because they shot him in the gut."

Having them off should equate to tampering with evidence.

“Law enforcement should be trained to de-escalate situations,” said Rowdy Paradis. “In this case, I stood 10 feet away and watched two deputies escalate the situation and needlessly kill a man.”

This quote pretty much sums up underlying problem in all of these encounters with police that end in questionable shootings or use of force.

It seems that come officers are looking for any excuse to escalate a situation.

Rancher in rural Idaho is called by the sherriff's office to kill his bull and get it out of the way. He brought a rifle down and allegedly had it at the ground the whole time. You don't need permission to possess a rifle in the open, and I highly doubt in this area, such an occurrence would be abnormal. He's not some dumbass pulling a glock out of his pants.

So... he attempted to do EXACTLY what they asked him to do. And they murdered him.

Well, they shot the bull first, so it was their kill. Can't have anyone stealing their thunder.

You would think some deputies from Idaho would know how to handle this situation.

Id like to know why they even had their AR's out of the car in the first place. Had to be some dumbass young cops.
