Wife and I will be heading to NC at the end of December and just decided yesterday to spend a few nights in Asheville

What are some recommendations from the OT about places to stay in and around Asheville and maybe some spots to check out?

Thanks

I highly recommend going to the sierra nevada brewery. Went over the summer and it was awesome.

The Grove Park Inn. If you don't stay there at least check it out. Visitors are welcome. They have a bar in the lobby where you can order a flight of Asheville beers. It's built in the Arts & Crafts architecture style with 14 ft tall fireplaces. They literally throw tree trunks in there to build a fire.

There's a pretty nice home that backs up to the Pisgah National Forest that I like to stay at. Its a little big for me and the wife but we make do. It was built around 1900 or so. The name escapes me, but I think its like Barrymore, Billingsley, Baltimore, something like that. I'll check back when I find out.

Some place in the woods close to the trails. The only thing that I'd want to do in a place like that is hike.

Going in April and thats where we are staying. I thought about staying at the Biltmore, but it seemed like being downtown would be more fun.

Highly recommend Rejavanation Cafe. Kind of hippyish, but damn, those sandwiches are damn good and fresh.

Asheville Cottages: stay there and thank me later. Just a couple of miles out of Asheville. Easy driving to Biltmore and right off Blue Ridge Parkway.

Have got to go to Grove Park Inn. Scenes are spectacular, and dinner was outstanding.

I've heard great things about the Grove Park Inn. How is the location?
I'm guessing it's not walking distance to the downtown area, but is it at least close?

this sounds like a good idea

we're driving so we'll have the car to get around

and i want to be more in nature than in a city

Drove through Black Mountain N.C. the other day, that looked like a really cool little town to visit.

Biltmore Inn is very nice. Wife loves it. If you stay there, ask for a room on the end. Room 201, 301, 401, 501. They're twice the size of a standard room for the same price.
