And I tend to side w/the homeowner. The Confederate battle flag has no place in modern society but you are free to display it.

No problem with it. They’re both free to exercise their beliefs. As a business owner, however, I think it’s more prudent to avoid expressing beliefs which may, or inevitably will, alienate paying customers.
