Construction on Amazon's 3.8 million square foot DC in Baton Rouge is moving FAST

A year ago they had only just gotten started with demolishing the old mall. Now this is what stands there:

Something to think about next time you build a house and the contractor spits out a 10 month timeline.

Work on the $200 million fulfillment center started just over a year ago, when crews started tearing down the mall in March 2021.
The 3.8 million-square-foot facility will be nearly 90 feet tall with the second through fifth floors taken up by storage, robotics and conveyors, which will pluck items and transport them down to the first floor for packaging and distribution.

Why is everyone getting so excited about an automated warehouse full of cheap Chinese shite?
I really don't get it.
And as far as I'm concerned, it's not a "fulfillment center" if you don't get a happy ending.

Isn't migrant labor great? Those dudes don't mess around.

Can’t wait to deal with BR traffic once Amazon comes on line and construction starts on I-10.

It’s massive.
Nearly 4 times the square footage as the mall it replaced. Biggest Amazon building in the state by far.
ETA: I think it's bigger than anything Amazon has in Chicago.

Meh. It doesn't mean shite. There's one in my general area and delivery times are longer than ever. It seems the more infrastructure Amazon gets, the worse they actually become.

90' tall. In good weather, I bet you can faintly see that thing while you are stuck on the I-10 bridge.

Imagine if we put Amazon in charge of building a new bridge...

Can we outsource all of Louisiana's public works to these people?

I'm hoping they start more activity at the airport and send their trucks up there.

Now we just need Amazon to pay for us to turn Airline into a northern loop of BR and we'll be good to go.
Once Amazon realizes how bad traffic is on that stretch of road they might say frick it we'll do it. So they can get west to I-10 and east to I-12 a lot quicker. Hell it would even create better access to that Amazon warehouse in WBR.

Most of that is modular pre-formed concrete walls.

I'm in 70815-16.
This is the single best thing that's happened within these zip codes in BR history.

Eh I'd bet Amazon has plenty millions of more reasons to make the building process go faster than you do.
