Hell no, but they are saving on not having as many people running registers. I never show my receipt, I walk right past them and they never ask either. I especially get a laugh out of the mindless sheep who actually will line up waiting for the person at the door to check them out. I just walk right past them. Of course at Sam's Club I comply because that is part of your membership.

You have taken this question beyond its scope. I don't object to their right to do what they did. I also believe I have the right to respond as I did. My question is do thy have the right o bring the police into it . If so then it is no longer a libertarian matter but a legal one. If, as I believe there was no legal basis to demand to see the receipt from either a constitutional or civil right / libertarian position then each side can act accordingly.

The other day I watched back to back people get caught trying to steal water. Both had cases of the big bottles but only paid for one. Maybe honest mistake. but the receipt bandits are there to keep prices lower by mitigating loss.

I never show my receipt unless they specifically stop me. While other people are waiting to get their receipt checked, I just walk around them. Nobody has ever told me anything.

Ok then. Walmart pays to have police on the premises. By acting like an a-hole you’ve opened yourself up to suspicion. At that point they can intervene how they see fit as they’re a private company on private property.
I mean, should Walmart just let people walk out the store with items that aren’t bagged no questions asked? Do you think that’s a good idea with their clientele?

The only time I remember having it checked was when I bought the cheapest blender they had. I used the self checkout, didn't put it in a bag, and had the receipt in my hand. She still asked me. I gave it to her and kept walking. I wasn't gonna return the damn thing even if it didn't work. I'm assuming she threw it away.

Costco does it. No problem with a business being proactive against thieves by checking receipts at the exit. Especially fricking Walmart.

Since when did making purchases, going through a checkout with an employee, paying for my purchases and attempting to walk out the store with my legally purchased items become acting like an a-hole. I do the same thing in 99% of other businesses that I visit.

Wouldn't matter if I had two small bags they would have asked for the receipt.
