Bruh, New Roads Mardi Gras is better than Mobile. The better watch out before Baton Rouge fixes their traffic problem before Mobile.

Terrible, offers nothing but claims credit for everything good.

This is what I always said when I lived in Mobile.
I always enjoyed Mobile Mardi Gras.
It used to be really laid back but I haven't been in 12 years or so....

Let them claim it, nobody really cares.

If you are not from the area and want to experience Mardi Gras - Are you going to Mobile or New Orleans?

Is this really an issue? I’ve never known anyone who debated this. Everyone I know knows Mardi Gras was began in Mobile. They also know NoLa dos it better.

Mobile is a place where wholesome, good people and families can celebrate the festivities. I'm glad it's an option.

Mobile established the first mystic society or Krewe

This is what they are trying to use to base their claim on.

Their first parades/celebrations were on New Year’s eve until the late 1800’s when they moved them to Mardi Gras season, because that was what NOLA was doing.

A parade/procession on new year’s eve is not a Mardi Gras parade. If any parade counts, then there are multiple St Patrick’s day parades the have been continuously held since before the American Revolution. Boston, NY, and Philly come to mind.

NOLA had Mardi Gras balls and masking until it was banned in the 1830’s. They also have active social clubs that have been having parties/balls since the 1840’s, was the first to present debutants, have a queen, have a king, tableaus, call outs, doubloons, throws, etc.

Moving your New Year’s celebrations to Mardi Gras does not give you claim to establishing Mardi Gras.

Mobile has a republican mayor and the prior was, too.

it's not a tourist city, it's a blue collar port city. Lots of jobs. Lots of economic activity. There are rough areas but the metro area is much nicer and less jacked up than many areas.

I'm talking about the attitudes of the people claiming credit for everything they didn't do first.

Mobile residents have celebrated Mardi Gras for more than 300 years, marking the close of Carnival and the beginning of Lent. The tradition has been passed down through generations since 1703.

So it started in Florida?
