We just want to take down Confederate statues

Complete fricking waste of time.

They’ve already started that with confederates; but I was told there’s no “slippery slope.”

Wait until they find out we executed hundreds, maybe thousands, of Japanese POWs on our island hopping campaign of WWII

Maybe they can figure out how to undrop those two nukes we put on them that massacred an exponentially greater amount of people than wounded knee.

They already moved on to the founding fathers and Abe Lincoln.

This is what govt should be focused on. The economy is strong, gas prices are low, patriotism is at an all time high.

This is where I'm at.
What happened at Wounded Knee was shameful, and some Native Americans have been calling for these Medals of Honor to be revoked for years. An relatively high number of them were awarded too, some simply for unspecified "bravery".
That said, working to revoke these now is a pathetic deflection by Congress. It's a political virtue signal that will accomplish nothing except piss off the descendants of these men.
If some members of Congress are doing this in good faith, they should at least enlist historians to fill in as many possible details about the recipients that day. Treat it like a football replay. If there isn't conclusive evidence that an individual acted out of order, they get to keep their medal.

The only issue I would have with this is if it took more than 10 minutes or so to pass.
Nothing about wounded knee should be celebrated. Especially the Feds trying to salvage the event by pretending people involved in the action deserve any type of positive recognition. Many, probably most, of the wounded you see listed were the result of friendly fire.

I would say something about Dresden, but they don't get upset about killing white people

What a great example of why you shouldn't turn in your rifles to the US government.

So putting aside the question of whether they should be spending time on this.
20 Medals of honor for a single encounter does seem like an excessive amount right? Especially for a one side Native American battle.
For reference, a quick Google search tells me only 16 people received medals of honor for the D-Day campaign.
So the fact that 20 of these guys got the award for killing mostly unarmed Natives seems a little silly right?

I guarantee you there is some fine print buried somewhere in this legislation that will screw this country up even more

Go after the stipends paid their widows and children (adjusted for inflation), and build a casino to fund the survivors of the tribe.

THIs wasn't a proud moment in our history.
But these men were doing what their government told them to do.
Exactly. If anything congress should be admonishing themselves and then set term limits to make up for what they've done in the past.

Gubment dividing society, and solving issues that don't exist.

No one is debating whether if they deserve the Medal of Honor or not. Everyone agrees that the vast majority did not. There is some debate on two or three.
However, the Medal of Honor was one of the few medals awarded prior to WWI. Medals such as the Distinguished Service Cross and Silver Star were not established until WWI.
A lot of early recipients of the Medal of Honor were undeserving based on the standards in place for the past 100 years. Hundreds of early recipients of the medal were stripped of the honor when new qualifications were put in place during WWI, and the medal increased significantly in prestige.
Others have been stripped over the years since then. This action is not unprecedented. People have been advocating for Wounded Knee to be addressed for years.
However, aren’t there more pressing issues facing the country right now? New evidence wasn’t recently uncovered. Politicians love to virtue signal and distract the public from the real problems, while simultaneously doing nothing to solve those problems.
