Friction between Tate and Landry aside, the Rutgers job is much better. Looks like about a $250k raise based on the salary of the previous guy.

How can Rutgers be any good if it admitted Jackie Aprile Jr., the same guy who robbed a card game with made mobsters and almost drowned in three inches of water when he was a little kid

I'm going to expand on some hard truths that need to be corrected by the new administration.
1. LSU's academic standing is atrocious. Its second worst in the SEC (only Mississippi State is rated lower). There is zero reason that LSU should not be middle of the pack in the conference. Actually there is zero reason that LSU should not be AAU. South Florida just received AAU status.
2. As stated above, LSU relies too much on TOPS and Pell Grants. It has lowered admission standards and has attracted students that should not be sniffing LSU. There are way too many sections of remedial math and science being taught at LSU.
3. LSU seems in a stronger position that they are because of "Tailgate Alumni." People who went to smaller universities (or no college) but cheer on the Tigers. This is different than the "Sidewalk Alumni" problem that schools like Alabama has. LSU has some serious donors that have zero academic attachment to LSU. It's all sports. Maybe that's okay, but it hurts the academic side.
4a. LSU's scholarship situation is awful, especially compared to the rest of the SEC. With Oklahoma and Arkansas waiving out of state for Louisiana residents, and Alabama giving tons of scholarship money, there are tons of students leaving the state. Louisiana has a brain drain problem. Our best and brightest aren't staying here.
4b. LSU's branding is entirely tied to athletics. Let's take your 28 ACT/3.8 kid that grows up loving the Tigers. They are going to pay around $25k a year for LSU. There is not a degree at LSU worth $100k. That kid might come on campus because they are a fan, but for a lot of families, they see $100k at LSU or $20k at State, Arkansas, Alabama, Oklahoma and make the financial decision.
F. King did some terrible crap, but dropping the alumni out of state waiver in 2015 was one of the worst. You have a lot of LSU legacy kids in Oxford, Starkville, Tuscaloosa, Fayetteville and Norman, or choosing Tech or Southwest Louisiana.

LSU simply does not get to invest in building programs because of stupid state political.
Example is Mike Foster refusing to let LSU have a Biomedical Engineering program at the behest of La Tech and Tulane by claiming there are already too many in the state and included a $45k/ year at the time private school.
With Pennington and other resources, including the medical schools, LSU is a strong spot for that.
Similarly, they suit all over the Comp Sci department a couple of decades ago and pushed away the best and brightest in those fields who bailed on LSU.
Georgia has more than double the population of Louisiana and yet has less than half of the public 4-year colleges that Louisiana has. Add in that they actually invest in their top schools and they succeed with schools like Ga Tech being top 10 programs in the country.
Add in Louisiana refuses to invest in diversifying their job market and a ton of the best students leave state. Trained on state money to just leave and help another state continue to grow and develop.

Yep, that 35 mile stretch on I-20 where you have three 4 year universities, all playing D1 athletics, is one of the most ridiculous things in American higher education.
Arizona has three public universities, total. Louisiana has three within a 45 minute drive and two more within another 45 minutes.

Flagship status means nothing in Louisiana. Ole Miss Arkansas and Texas run their respective state. We have way too many mfers in legislature that are graduates of other schools.
We need to take away all that free LSU all those mfers get and only give it to those that support LSU

It’s funny that people call this board racist and extreme right wing, but we now have multiple threads saying how disappointed we are that a black man is leaving an extremely important position within the state while shitting all over the current white republican governor .
And the board wept last week when a very well liked and respected black democrat passed away.
This board has brains if you pay attention.

I don't have a strong opinion on this but under Tate hasn't LSU's academic ranking dropped? Haven't the admissions standards dropped?

That's right. That's why Tony Soprano went to Seton Hall instead.

Tate has been the exact opposite of FuKing. Wish we could have held onto him longer. Lets see what retard Landry supports

Because there aren’t any non retarded republicans in the state. The Louisiana Republican Party and for that matter the national Republican Party has a bad habit of shooting itself in the foot whenever it has a good opportunity to do something worthwhile.

The admissions standards were dropped under FKing, as did the rankings toward the end, though he did elevate them a bit before that, so I don't think they had dropped to where they were before that. I do not recall if they have dropped since Tate took over, but they are right about where they have been most of the last decade or so, if my recollection is correct (my recollection is always suspect).
