Quartz is nice, very durable and hardly any upkeep.
I like the look of soapstone, but I don’t know what the upkeep or durability is.

Leathered Black Pearl granite is what I put in for my outdoor kitchen and bar. We really like it and have gotten many compliments on it.

QuartzITE. Quartzite is a natural stone that is top of the line and looks very nice. Quartz is a man made product that looks like shite.

Yes, concrete is porous so you have to seal it with some type of sealer. When I did mine, I did the whole deal down to 2000 grit wet sanding. Then self leveling epoxy then a coat of polyurethane. The combo makes the counters look like they have water on top of them and you can really see the detail of the aggregates. They are freakin beautiful. But even with epoxy and polyurethane coatings my countertop(or coating) is stained. Maybe I can buff it out or strip the urethane and remove it. I don't know, I was hoping not to do that for at least 5-10 years. Just didn't expect it to be so fragile. Still happy with them because I put the time in and they look awesome. That being said, I doubt I would do it again.

Sealing isn’t a one time thing. I know most people just do it once, but it does need to be re-sealed over time.

you do NOT want marble. Etches way too easily and just way to soft compared to other options.

I think the concrete route would actually be really good for a basement bar.
If it was your actual kitchen I'd say marble or Quartz, but for a basement bar doing a stained concrete would actually be really cool.

True but it is not like it is a labor extensive or time consuming project.

Yep. The bar in my shop is cypress 1x's and it looks awesome
