the price for a ticket to my favorite band’s shows is well below market and always has been, and they sell out many of the most popular venues in the country. That’s because the artist wants it that way

Tay Tay taking a moratorium on touring alone would drop the average ticket price considerably.

They were only available via lottery. I'll be in Chicago.

I know they did. Hence me having ONE for the rose bowl

I’m not sure if the 3rd party resale restrictions are as strict in the US as everywhere else.

I don’t know of any big tours except Metallica.

Sabrina Carpenter is touring, isn't she pretty popular? The Weeknd is still on his After Hours Til Dawn stadium tour.

Paying big $$ just to have a bunch of phones in the air blocking your view.

I don't go see big shows in arenas but the cost of tix to small venues continues to go up. Part of the reason is even small 150 person venues have started using 3rd party ticket sellers so you get all the fees added to a ticket that I used to buy at the door.

wake up and realize that if the artist they are going to see wanted lower ticket prices, then there would be lower ticket prices.

Are you saying that the artists could band together and do something about the SeatGeek/Vivid/etc secondary market OR that the artists could charge lower face value and then it would be cheaper?

I might agree on the former but the latter....if Pearl Jam played 50 free shows around the country and if you still had to go to the secondary market to get the free ticket it would still be $300,

Look at the prices for the Heart concert in BR?

I love them and they are way past their prime................but the prices for the seats are as if they are a headliner in their prime............so like 1988???

And lets dont talk the wheelchair??

The fact this is in a Bloomberg article is kind of asinine.

That being said, good. The prices they want for live events nowadays are absolutely insane, and maybe this means the average Joe has finally hit peak FOMO and has started balking at prices.

In defense of the artists, they have to charge more, do they not? They're not getting money for the actual album, absent a bit from Spotify/etc.

Going to a concert is still a lot more expensive than it used to be.

So?

I can buy nearly every song ever created for $12 a month. I can listen to most songs and watch thousands of concerts and live music for free. It’s never been cheaper to be a music fan.

Why are people bitching about the one area that musicians can still make money?

Of course concerts are more than they’ve ever been because everything else is cheaper than it’s ever been.

Unless people want to start actually buying music again concert prices are going to have to stay pretty high if you want many musicians/acts to actually be able to make any money at all from their music.
People weren’t buying music 20 years ago either when we were all downloading it from Napster and Limewire. Concert ticket prices weren’t outrageous then
