Bands used to tour heavily to promote albums, the competition kept prices down and even smaller/medium size cities got to see really good acts fairly often

This isnt the case anymore.

The law requiring full disclosure of actual prices up front went into effect last Thursday. They have probably been slowly implementing it to avoid sticker shock. Still over priced unless they've dropped by half. I paid just under $1000 for James Taylor in September this year last month. I would have bet 20 years ago I wouldn't have paid James Taylor $1000 to come to the house and clean it up and put on a 90 minute show....but here we are.

They're doing the AirBNB method - advertising low prices, then making up the difference in added fees.

Ticketmaster - $40 ticket, $50 processing and venue fees

As of last Thursday thats not legal. I am sure they will find a way around it....

I rarely buy face value these days. The last few times I did, I noticed that tickets were selling for less in the few days leading up to the concert.

The last time Theo Vonn came to Baton Rouge I went. I bought tickets on the day they went on sale.. $60 a ticket.

I sat by a guy who came in about 20 mins before.. I was talking to someone on the row below me and we were talking about how much we paid. He said they were $120 on one of those secondary sights. 3 hours before the show. He waited 2 hours, with one hour before the show and got them at $8.

But I remember before all of these ticket sites, it used to be illegal to scalp tickets. I'd rather buy a ticket for $20 more than face value from the brother on the corner than seatgeek, who will jack it up 300%.

People weren’t buying music 20 years ago either when we were all downloading it from Napster and Limewire. Concert ticket prices weren’t outrageous then

You aren't really going to try to compare someone in the early 2000s with shitty internet, letting Limewire run for hours, praying that what they are downloading doesn't melt their family's PC, with the hopes of obtaining a shitty copy of whatever album for "free" to now having a choice of a couple dozen apps that all have most new music on them on demand for free, or next to nothing, are you?

3rd party ticket sellers so you get all the fees added to a ticket that I used to buy at the door.

The real crime here.

that the artists could charge lower face value and then it would be cheaper?
that is exactly what I am saying. The artist, not the venue and not ticketmaster is the only one who can decide to lower prices. The secondary market is out of their control

I just looked up Creed tickets
$325 each
$170 fees

So what's changed? - NOTHING

Feel good politics BS - So they have to include the fees in the advertised price instead of them showing up at checkout.
The fees are still 20% of the total price.

In defense of the artists, they have to charge more, do they not? They're not getting money for the actual album, absent a bit from Spotify/etc.

The artists are complicit in this boondoggle. They are either given or buy up groups of tickets and sell them on the secondary market as well. I try to purchase merch when I go to shows to help the artists, but again the prices have gotten so out of control I don't even bother anymore unless I'm already in the area and can just watch for insanely cheap last second tickets.

100% agree. I was just looking up pricing for any random major concert in the Smoothie King Center.

People getting tired of skanks carrying on like they are at a bar talking over the whole thing? Or maybe the skanks are into it and are screaming out of tune over the lyrics?

Can't see why people wouldn't want to go.

“I was shocked by how much profit is made,” Smith said of modern ticketing in a new interview with Matt Everitt shared to the band’s website. “I thought, ‘We don’t need to make all this money.’ My fights with the label have all been about how we can price things lower. The only reason you’d charge more for a gig is if you were worried that it was the last time you would be able to sell a T-shirt.”

Last year, Smith hit out at Ticketmaster after The Cure fans reported huge fees that doubled prices to see the English rock band on their Lost World tour. The singer eventually managed to negotiate a partial refund for customers.

...We didn’t allow dynamic pricing because it’s a scam that would disappear if every artist said, ‘I don’t want that!’ But most artists hide behind management. ‘Oh, we didn’t know,’ they say. They all know. If they say they do not, they’re either f***ing stupid or lying. It’s just driven by greed.”

...calling out the "greed-driven" dynamic pricing models used by other artists such as Bruce Springsteen. Smith stated, "No, I'm not letting this go," and clearly, he didn't

there you go…the truth. Artists are more than happy to let Ticketmaster get all the backlash, and Ticketmaster is happy to be the punching bag because they have a monopoly now and don’t need any positive PR. if the bands truly wanted lower ticket prices they could do it.

so the next time you are tempted to blame “ticketbastard” just remember that your favorite band is the one setting the price

BTW, one of the ways the bands do this on the lowdown is they demand 110% of the gate. How can they get 10% more than the proceeds from ticket sales you might ask?

the answer is in the fees

Deranged libtard OP posts deranged libtard article. Must be a day that ends in Y.

May want to reconsider what you feed your brain everyday so you don’t end up like that dude who raped to death an infant or tried to execute 4 people because they did him wrong. You probably still have time to stop the damage.
