Nothing about Catholicism or any other form of Christianity conflicts with other beings existing in the universe, so you’re a fool if you abandon your faith because of that.

Also, religion is not about “binding people to act in controllable ways”. It often does the opposite, which is why communist countries like the Soviet Union and The People’s Republic of China have tried to snuff religion out completely. It’s also why the Roman Empire tried to snuff Christianity out almost two millennia ago.

Religion is a threat to authoritarian governments who want to maintain absolute control and power over their subjects.

I’m a believer in Christ, but there’s no way He would support the majority of what we now have as Christian based religions. Every flavor has been manipulated by man to serve their desires.

I don't think a mass hysteria event would happen, but then again we all saw what happened with a large portion of folks with Covid. I still see people I work with that don't have compromised immune systems, alone in their car, with masks on. They also wear them all day in the office.

The concern around the response is, in a way, valid. You would have an event where the basis of life itself and who we are as a people could come into question. The reality may be very dark, then we'd have some serious issues at hand. The entire structure of how we've built an existence would be challenged, things could easily get ugly fast.

Not saying all that would happen, but can see how the powers that be would be assessing the risk.
