Why would they have you tested for it if they do not care if you smoke/dip once you start working?

I'm not saying they don't care. But once you get hired they don't do random tests for nicotine.

People chew the nicotine gum and use patches though.

Nicotine is a natural by product of tobacco.

Seriously?

SHOULD they care is another discussion, but are you really wondering WHY they would care?

Gotcha... didn't know that. Like I said, definitely not an expert on the subject. Far from it.

So just trying to steer back on topic a little but the consensus is that the nicotine test should have been administered with the drug screen and the medical exam shouldn't test for any nicotine, correct?

Not if they're providing health insurance. It's actually pretty smart.

They might also view the person as having poor judgement.

Nicotine is usually tested for insurance premiums and not necessarily your employer, however I'm not sure of the laws but they might be able to see the results.

They test for nicotine via blood sample for a metabolite. It is usually done by itself and takes a larger sample.

Thanks Obamacare.

Does that mean they do a cholesterol check, skin biopsy, Family medical history, etc? I mean how invasive can they get?

Not here. All testing is done via urine.

Ours does a nicotine test to lower your insurance premium a large amount.

Its 100% optional though.

The Southern Company. They do it for insurance premium purposes.

Sounds like a law suit waiting to happen.
