re: Commuting from NOLA to BR everday; looking for advice / someone to possibly commute with.

I did Nola to BR for a few months. It’s too far to do long term.

At the time, gas was like $3.50 a gallon so that sucked. The worst traffic was of course BR. Metairie/Kenner wasn’t as bad. Friday evenings were bad though in Metairie/Kenner.

I've been making the commute from Nola to BR for a little over a year now. The stretch from Prairieville to Highland was the worst part of the drive by far. Since the lane shite a few weeks ago it's become infuriating. The number of lanes haven't changed at all but people freak out about driving next to the concrete barricades. It blows the soccer mom's minds in their Explorers and 4-Runners. Door to door it's about 1hr 20 minutes on a good day. 2 hours on a bad day. It helps to listen to the traffic and use Waze thought because if it's too bad I just get off by Tanger and navigate my way in through the neighborhoods and hit Airline at Barringer Forman.

I started to hate my life after a while. One wreck could add 2 hours to your commute. I started realizing I spent way too much time sitting in my fricking car every week.

ETA: I get to work at 9am and leave at 3:45-4pm. That makes a big difference. If I had to work a full 8 hours I don't think it would be manageable.

You ever see that motherfricker in the Black Toyota Yaris going 100mph in the mornings toward NOLA and back home toward BR about 4pm? He has to be flooring that go-kart the entire trip, swerving in and out of lanes. I reported his plate but have seen him several time since then. All I know is his plate is XOR 736, and he's a white dude who looks about 25-35 yrs old.

Incredibly unsafe and bothers me that he's been getting away with this shite for over a year since I joined the early morning/afternoon commute between La-73 and Laplace with that a-hole.

How does this thing even do 100mph? I mean he could be going 95mph. But still awfully dangerous the way he drives.

This is 100% true.

I had an hour and fifteen minute commute each way for two years. I was absolutely miserable and there was a significant drop in quality of life.

To the OP - I would absolutely consider moving to BR or finding another job in NOLA. That commute is going to drain you over time.

They are about to widen the freeway between Prarieville and Highland.

It will only be 6 lanes wide when they are done and it is going to suck during construction.

OP needs to move north of Highland. Not worth losing 3 hours a day. State wants those two metros to grow into each other, but the infrastructure just is not there to support it.

It's too much stress on a person to have to make that commute every day. Not to mention the added likelihood of an accident or costs of fuel for the vehicle.

Yea you get familiar with your "commuter buds" if they're in unique vehicles.

And if you've seen that a-hole in the Yaris, you know I'm not being an ole fuddy. He's not just average guy in a Mustang going 90. That's not a big deal. It's the way this guy swerves and tailgates in a car that has tires the size you see on a golf cart.
Seriously, I will feel partly responsible when this frickhead kills someone. But, Troop A didn't give a shite when I reported him. What else can we do?

Absolutely. At 530-630 it's a ton of volume heading East from Highland but most people know how to drive at 70-85mph. He's the exception.

I rationalize it in my head and make best of it. My day is right at 12 hrs from alarm to pulling in driveway.

I think to myself I could be working outside in construction 12 hours a day or doing turnarounds at my plant like many do.
