re: Commuting from NOLA to BR everday; looking for advice / someone to possibly commute with.

I don't disagree with you, but in this situation it's completely avoidable. If you live in NYC or LA or something you have to have an hour commute, it's just part of life. This dude is working in BR, there's really no reason to waste 3 hours a day commuting, and we are completely ignoring the fact that he is going to spend, what, $500 in fuel to get back and forth from work. Just seems unnecessary.

This only sounds bad when you don't also not that you'd only have at most and additional hour and a half to two hours with a "local" job.
It's not some life-ruining hardship like many here are making it out to be. Is it ideal, no. Will it ruin your home life, most likely not.

Fuel was $400/month in a Jeep getting horrible gas mileage. It's $130/month in a hybrid.

That's why I ended up leaving LSU. Loved the job, was making good money, but the time I was driving, gas money, and wear and tear on my vehicle wasn't worth it. I took a job in New Orleans and my commute is now around 20 min with no highway. I make around $5k less per year, but it is well worth it on the amount of free time I have now

Well, I'm just speculating as are you, but he didn't specify any reason for not wanting to move. I'm guessing there's not a reason he MUST stay in NOLA, more that he wants to. I get wanting to stay, but at what point is it not worth it is my only point.
I'm not sure why you went attack mode on me because I generally agree with you, I was just making the point that that kind of commute isn't necessary like it is some other cities.

Interesting, I figured it's like $150 miles round trip plus traffic it'd be a little more than that, but I was just guessing.

For it to cost $500 a month, you'd have to be getting 14mpg and paying $2.20 a gallon. Most full size trucks these days get 20 or better on the highway, so he's likely looking at much less than $500.
The fuel cost is definitely a big consideration though.
ETA: I know some jerkoff would down vote this post even though there is nothing that warrants it. Loser.

Well I mean generally, yes I do. In a lot of big cities unless you are the top 1% you pretty much have to have an hour commute or more. If you're working in baton rouge, most middle class people can afford to live pretty close to their jobs. Again, not sure why you're attacking because this really isn't controversial and it's not really anything to argue about.

I commuted from BR to Reserve for about 14 months, then BR to Boutte for another 3 months. There were days where I definitely didn't feel like making that drive, but all in all I didn't think it was terrible.

I usually fill up everyday for between $20-30. Most months will have about 20 business days. I drive 150-200 miles a day. It’s more like $400-450 like you said. I get 25-30 mpg though depending on how I’m driving that day.
And it’s not the worst thing in the world, but it does suck arse. I’ve been doing it for 18 months now. I’m way beyond over it at this point.
