re: Commuting from NOLA to BR everday; looking for advice / someone to possibly commute with.

My commute takes an hour each way most days and I'm only going from Prairieville to Baton Rouge. I've tried carpooling with a coworker in the past, but I quickly realized I don't enjoy that much time in a car with anyone. Download Audible & listen to books. The time passes more quickly.

Agree. I vastly prefer being alone to talking to a random person in my car. I also don't want the hassle of having to plan my schedule around someone who isn't in my family. If I want to stop at the store after work, I don't want to have to drop someone else off, first. Or go home to get my car.

For me, it's the sitting in traffic part. I drove 30 miles to high school straight interstate and didn't mind that at all. Now, I sit in Dallas traffic and it takes the same amount of time as it did in high school but it's only like 7 miles. 90 minutes is a long time especially when dealing with traffic.

AAAALLLL THIS. did it for 18 months and just couldnt do it anymore. Leaving at 6am home at 7-8. pretty much missed he first year of our first child. HALF the time in traffic was stuck in Metairie/Kenner. Twice a week some dipshit would have a fender bender, flat tire, stalled truck that closed a lane and then add another 30 minutes to the drive....

My commute has barely any traffic but I think that makes it worse. My drive will never be shorter than it already is. A drive with traffic can be done faster at different points of the day.

I work basically 60 hours a week now because I work some weekends and a few 24 hours shifts a month. However my commute is only an hour a day 5ish times a week so essentially just under 64 hours a week between driving and working. I do sleep at work one of those night so 8 of those hours I’m sleeping so same as I’d be doing at home. I’m just “on call”. Bringing the total time down to 56ish (52 work and 4 driving)
My old job was only 40 hour work weeks but I drove 3 hours a day at least and that was 5 days. Bringing the old total to at least 55 hours but in actuality it was closer to 57/58 when you factor a shite day or two of traffic. So yeah, I have more time now and I work “way more”. Additionally, the 30 minute commute is more of an unwinding after work and a nice break I would take otherwise. Not the 1.5+ hour drive where I was wasting my life away instead of working and bettering my career or being home and bettering my home life.
