Small towns can be even worse.

It's absurd how many small towns seem like they've spent more on one decked out police SUVs than the elementary school.

Why do cops need $60,000 SUV’s when a $25,000 Malibu will do?

Define “heavy duty police work”. I honestly don’t know what that means.

Of course it is. It has an iron block V8 and a full frame underneath it.

The 5.3-liter V8 doesn't have higher output than stock (355 horsepower, 383 pound-feet of torque), but it does pick up the engine rocker covers from the Camaro ZL1, which Chevy says provide better crankcase ventilation and allow the engine to handle high cornering loads for longer

they could at least put a higher output than the 5.3, maybe the 6.2 at minimum

This. Police patrol vehicles get the crap beat out of them and must be replaced regularly. Therefore, newer models are required and only select vehicles can handle the beating they receive.

Or better yet, a Chevy Spark.

Because it’s a lot easier to throw this stuff in the budget in the name of “safety” than it is to have anything in there aimed to actually improve the community like better schools, roads, or business development.

Plus they incentivize these police departments to max out their budget so they can claim they need more instead of getting it slashed. Podunkville US will find a reason to need swat gear and tactical weapons for a 200 person town
