remember reading something along the lines of once a carnivore attacks and gets a taste of human blood, it makes it more likely to attack humans in the future

I’ve always heard that too, but seems like a dumb myth. What is so special about the taste of humans? Do all carnivores just have a sweet tooth for people flesh?

This bear presumable could’ve killed him and eaten him if it really wanted to.

Bear will likely attack again, which is why they have to put it down.

I was light heartedly suggesting that the dude be euthanized to save him from himself due to all the bad things that happen to him while doing his hobbies. If you are that uptight, go be outraged in the thread about the kicker with the gun.

Yeah, I’m not sure it has as much to do with the tatste of people as it does that the predator’s opinion of people changes.

People intimidate predators with guns, loud equipment, etc. But my thinking is that when one does decide to attack and is successful, it starts to think that we’re no different than any other prey...and we’re slower, weaker and less dangerous in a fight.

In Denali the aim is to not have bears associate humans with food. Cook and store your food away from your camp, and keep the food in bearproof containers. If they dont see you as an easy source of food they ignore you. It's been pretty successful. Only a couple of bear attacks in 30+ years.

Dylan needs to work on his situational awareness

or

stop frequenting places where there is dangerous wildlife.

I remember the first time I ever saw the Crocodile Hunter. I said to my SO “if this idiot keeps on doing those types of things we won’t have to put up with his arse for very long”.

I bet you have no problem eradicating flies, ants, wasps, cockroaches, and termites though, do you?

Met a guy this past week at a boat launch pulling his kayak out the water. Started chatting with him. He was from CO and said he saw several big gators that freaked him out. I told him they are more scared of you. Then he tells me about an old friend on a safari in Africa 3 years ago. He was in a boat heading up a river and a big croc comes out of nowhere, grabs him out the boat and was never seen again. Holy shite

He better not go on a safari in Africa. He probably should not even visit a zoo, nor should he own a pitibull.

Bring him down to Louisiana in the summer where the heat, and the mosquitoes can finish him off.

I think it is because they cannot be trusted thereafter if it is in an area where there is human traffic. Not because of the “taste of human blood”, but potential lack of fear of humans in general. You know, like the bear’s thinking well...that had no tough hide, long claws, or pointy horns to deal with. I’ll have another.

Then why not just euthanize all bears? They would all likely do the same thing in that situation..
