I’ve got a Breckinridge trip booked April 1-5. Guess that’s gone now.

There are many western ski resorts that operate on National FOREST service lands by permit.
You are correct. I was thinking forest but typed park. They permit doesn't exclude other activities when the permit holder vacates their activity. For example, if there wasn't snow early or late enough a person could 4 wheel in approved areas (trails appropriately marked), horse back ride or mountain bike anywhere they want.
With these operators now ceasing their permitted use the areas of the national forests in question can be used for public use.

Yes I know I already responded. The point is once the operators of the ski areas abandon their operations (for example Telluride just closed for the season) the public can now use the national forest as the public lands they are.

The resort counties have about the same numbers of cases as rest of the state. Foreigners ruining everything

But the FS still regulates what activities can happen where. They close motorized travel on much of the areas here. You can hike, and ride a Mtn bike, but try taking a car or 4 wheeler on those same areas and you're getting shut down.

LOL. How hard is it to stay 6 feet apart "Social distancing" at a 5000 acre ski resort?
You’d be surprised.

You mean national forests? Because national parks do not allow snowmobiles.

The resorts were staying open and had implemented measures, as best they could, to prevent the spread. But to close the resorts will have huge economic fallout for the area I hope they are only closed for the week. It feels like he just decided to close them down after they reported in the morning they were staying open.

Cars and 4 wheelers are always restricted in the national forests. - NF Mapping this is a very useful link to see where you can and can't go by vehicle type - Road legal, >50 inch width, <50 inch width, etc.
However, snowmobiles get way wider access because they have zero erosion and impaction impact to the area traveled. I have been in multiple national forests throughout Colorado in the winter on snow mobiles where it is horseback and hiking only.
I am not saying that you could run up the slopes when the ski areas are open, but once they are closed if I was in the area I would, some people may get pissy (residents etc.) but there isn't anything they really could do.

Can viruses even survive in the cold and even sub-32° temperatures?

Probably a good call after the outbreaks at the Italian ski resorts helped spread this thing.

I'm in Estes sippin a scotch at 10am. Been ordered to work from home all week so considering staying another night or two. Pretty much had RMNP to ourselves yesterday. NPs>ski resorts

Now you can, and I have, access Grand Teton NP from hiking out of bounds of Jackson hole.
Sounds like a good way to get eaten by a bear.

Here in Germany there's been a couple of local clusters from skiers that brought it back from Austria. Probably a good move.

no one will be affected much unless the weed shops are forced to close
self imposed quarantines are fine and all that as long as you don't run out of weed for the bong, if that happens it could get biblical end of the world panic
