This shtick is certainly due to him being a cautious fighter. We know he could probably knock folks out, but the pattycake-to-takedown ensures that he can outpoint everyone. Smart if you simply like winning, but that doesn't sell. And I doubt he believes most of what he says, which is why you never see any long-form interviews where he can't utilize canned responses. Pure WWE stuff. But, in the end, it makes him relevant.
