Could be the Chinese. They've been spying on our plants for decades

The drone operators probably just want to make sure the satellite images you can see on Google Maps and Apple’s Maps app are accurate.

It's more likely Greenpeace or Sierra Club behind it (Soros really). Flying FLIR cameras to expose unknown releases to try and throw the company/industry under the bus again.
Good companies have an internal group (or contractor) that already does this themselves.

Much of the time it’s an idiot drone operator that’s bored with his drone because he can’t find cool shite to look at

Additionally, on March 8, 2021, a drone was discovered flying near a Louisiana pipeline.
Show me an area in Louisiana where you can fly and not be "near a pipeline."

going out on a limb here and saying the drones belong to the companies to survey and the FBI is just to shitty to ask them.

Eventually the towel baws are going to figure out how to strap a dirty bomb to one.

They are not surveying at night. Most of these unauthorized flights are occurring at night.

Sounds like the feds have some new toys to play with and are setting up the terrorism story to blame others when they ultimately crash or get caught violating a bunch of laws.

I agree with shooting them down.
If a shotgun is fired from the facility towards the river, the pellets are not gonna harm anyone

Well the concern is that some "bad actors" might target a critical piece of pipeline, sort of how the US government targeted Nord Stream.

True but it's rather well known that having a shot gun in an operating facility is generally frowned upon
But I still like the way your think

this may be a dumb question but ... isn't it pretty normal practice to use drones to inspect industrial infrastructure like pipelines etc. these days?
Also: CNN/FBI so this article is suspect right out of the gate

Plenty of 1A auditors doing this on Youtube

Focus Pocus in Britain is incredible. His knowledge of the law and drone regulations is quite extensive. Watching him clown these coppers cracks me up. Auditing Britain is another funny guy but he doesn't use drones

This is 100% no bullshite. It was the day of the LSU vs Southern game. I was going north on La 1 around Brusly. Blue sky. And at a red light I saw what appeared to be a reflection at first, but when my eyes went to it, it wasn't a reflection. It just stayed there. It was like a reflection that was in the sky and then it moved in what I would describe as a drone, but it appeared to be higher in the sky than the average amateur type drone you might see someone playing with in their drive way. This all happened in a matter of 20 seconds at the most.
Im not saying this is true, I don't know what I saw was a drone, I just know I saw something in the sky that was in an area where there are a few chemical plants.

Acme Drone Defense baws. My company ADD, finds that it is easier to sell our long term contracts if, maybe, there is a history of scary drone overflight of your facility. So far, only Louisiana based companies and CNN have fallen for it. Nothing to see here.

Probably some poor real estate agent who was flying a drone to take pictures of a property she was selling only to find her GMC SUV surrounded by men in black with guns drawn.
pics of real estate agent?
