Right. But it would make more sense in the context of “Arkansas” to say the lakes are opening. If I’m there and we are going towards a beach I’ll call it a beach. But we don’t say “going to the beach this weekend!”, we say that we are going to the lake.
I feel like most are being obtuse and getting into the semantics when really it’s just a funny headline considering Arkansas is a landlocked state.
PS: the lakes have BEEN open so this really isn’t news.

The lake could be open and the beaches closed. Now the beaches are open.
You obviously call the overall location The Lake. But if you were on a boat at the lake you very well might say

Yeah, if you refer to the lake chances are because you have a boat you put on that lake. If you’re just going swimming in the lake but don’t have a boat, you’ll tell people staying at your lake house that you’re going down to the beach and swimming. How many people that go to what you solely refer to as the beach have a boat that they go out on the ocean? None?

You can’t really access the “beaches” without the boat. You’re reaching so very hard to make sense of what was otherwise supposed to be a humorous headline. Good grief.

A beach is defined as a land area next to a body of water that is composed of loose particles.
By that definition, there are some beautiful beaches in Arkansas.
