I've been buying it a few years now and I've never seen it that low where I am. Walmart has the small bag at $10.99 and the large bag at $18.99. Publix now sells the small bag for $12.99 and has never had the big bag. Elsewhere, not including Sam's or Costco, it is $10.99 for the small bag.

I've been buying CC for years from Rouses, Oakpoint or Alexanders.

This is literally from Rouses weekly ad today. LINK

Mine is getting butchered tomorrow. I haven't bought beef from a grocery store in years.

My dad is almost 80 and still has over 700 head of cattle. He wants to get it down to 50 or so head that he can just "enjoy," but it would be stupid to exit right now.

Similar boat here. We just sold the last of dad’s cattle. At one time we ran about 1200 head. Now he’s got 5, basically pets.
Almost killed him but he’s 79 and showing signs of dementia. The cattle market is higher than it’s ever been. Time to cash out

I've seen it dip that low every now and then in recent years. Piggly Wiggly/Lyon's Mart will have those sales.

Cattle herd sizes are at their lowest levels in 74 years, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF). Cattle ranching is not as profitable as it once was, and experts say many ranchers have given up.

Drought.

Good new is it is easing up but it'll take a year or two to get herd sizes back up.

I have a friend that is a beef rancher. He said the Green grift wants to get rid of most cows and only raise enough beef for the elites to eat. He says the Biden agenda placed hundreds of new regulations on them, causing many to get out of the business. We have been hoping that DJT would scrap all of that bullshite and get us back to $5/lb ribeyes.

the costs for ranching have been steadily rising for years and the profit margin has been going down. Corporations and foreign entities are buying up American farmland and ranches to control the food supply.

Not only that, but the Estate Taxes eat up these family farms and ranches as well. Landowner I've worked with for years passed away not to long ago. He didn't owe hardly any notes, and he wasn't necessarily cash rich, but he had a TON of farmland and ranchland. That's what he'd do with his money.

The estate now owes in the tens of millions in Estate Taxes to Uncle Sam because of how the land is valued as an estate asset, and since no one in the family has that kind of cash laying around, they're going to have to sell some of the farms and ranches.

When leftists tell you that the Estate Taxes are good for America and don't harm everyday people, they are either lying or completely ignorant into how the reality works. Small family farms end up having almost no choice but to sell out to larger corps or developers just so they can pay taxes when their loved ones pass away.

I’m confused as hell.
I would think now is the best time with high prices. I’m glad both have plenty of beef to sell when they get ready. I know they worked extremely hard to build herds to that size. Congrats to both!

I’m contemplating starting a small herd but don’t want it to be a complete money pit. Just want to feed my family and sell a few to possibly break even. Maybe turn a small profit if possible.

I'd probably save money if I quit hunting and bought the equivalent amounts of beef.

The finest waygu would be cheaper per pound if you add in thr cost for guns, atv's, maintenance, leases, etc.

My dad has a nice herd of Corriente cattle or did at one time. He may have sold them all and moved more towards beef cattle. I can’t keep up with all his horse trading and cow shite.

Sounds like a hell of a deal compared to what one costs when one of our oilfield baws forgets to close a gate and one (or several) get killed on the roadway.

I think it's more of a local thing why we see CC on sale in South LA. I mean they make and package the coffee in Port Allen. Same with Folgers as it's made and packaged in New Orleans at two different plants.

I just bought a Prime NY Strip last night for $14.99/lb. Seems pretty damn good to me.

That is an outlier and you know it. Good sale though if it met even the lower end of Prime requirements. A few weekends back we were at the camp and I got some really nice (for the price) bone-in ribeye from Rouses for 13.99 a pound. That was an outlier and even though is was solid steak it wasn't near the quality of what I get when I pay the more normal price of $34-35 a pund for boneless ribeeye.

Every inflation thread always has people gaming the system with the "what a deal" they got or a picture of some stupidly overpriced item at a local market to make their point... for reasons.

Chicken and pork prices have both been pretty reasonable at least to my post-COVID brain but beef prices certainly have not been. Just look at the cost of 80/20 ground beef. The 2.99 per sales have almost completely disappeared and the 3.49 and mostly 3.99 sales seem to be the norm now.

Walmart is never a good place to buy beef but it is a decent snapshot of prices for ground beef. I grabbed this from a Walmart from a random BR store (the at Old Hammond and Airline)

I checked Albertsons, and it is cheaper at $4.99 a pound

Albertsons 15.99 a pound choice Ribeye

American food prices are insane. Especially considering our agricultural output and taxpayer subsidies.

Adding to the insanity is the fact that most of our food is complete trash from a health and quality standpoint.
