I just bought a Prime NY Strip last night for $14.99/lb. Seems pretty damn good to me.

shite, you can't find a decent ribeye or filet in Baton Rouge for less than $25 a pound these days.

We sold 6 young steers about 2 or 3 months ago and the prices were some of the best we've ever gotten. The check covered the hay and cattle cube budget for the year. I've got about 6 more that will be ready to go in September.

I'm starting to look for a new herd sire as our old one needs to be replaced in the next few months. I'm dreading what the price will be for something that weighs over 2000 lbs. I'm guessing the next batch of steers we sell will cover that cost.

In other words, we might break even this year.

well, if CNN says it, its settled. They are by no means biased or have any agenda. They're clearly here to simply report the facts.

Stop dumping all of our corn into bullshite fuel and sugar substitutes and maybe it would be cheaper to feed out a cow for slaughter.

I buy a half a cow every 6-7 months. Just ordered the next one and it is going to run about 1900. Those old prices are long gone, but I'm open to a new supplier if it exists!

I think I've bought beef twice in the past 4 or 5 years. Usually eat deer so only buy beef if I want a fatty ribeye. I'd probably save money if I quit hunting and bought the equivalent amounts of beef.

you might repeat that process again, but you won't be paying the same price for the cow. The cow I was buying for $800(small fella) are $3,500 at the auction now.

We need to get out of the way of the small farmer playing this zero sum game with bovine safety. The farm bill is just a grift, like everything else. I've heard it rumored that every beef packer is owned by private equity, and if that's true, it's bullshite.
