Jason Isbell

Overrated as hell IMO.

Isbell is a great talent. He is probably the best pure songwriter working right now. He is one who had maintained ties to the old country days. Hell, the last time I saw him he brought John Prine on stage and sang happy birthday to him, then did a song with him. Unfortunately, with songs like "White Man's World" he has turned off a large portion of his audience. That doesn't change his talent. "Decoration Day" may be one of the best songs he's ever written.

I agree with most of the sentiment here about the change in my favorite music. Being of the older generation, I find listening to country music sung in Ireland is like going back in time when our country music was so popular. Try a few of these if you will.

Number 1 - Rap ain't music, it's just some kind of gutteral grunting, jibberish.

Number 2 - I agree the decline started around the Garth Brooks stage show, slamming guitars, swinging on a rope above the crowd era.

These guys nailed it.

I used to love country music as much as anyone, but it's been beyond garbage for well over a decade, so I stopped listening to it. Can't imagine how fricking terrible and cringe it is now.

Nobody's mentioned Wheeler Walker Jr yet? Better than anything coming out of music row.

Garth gets a lot of hate on this board for some reason but if it wasn’t for him, Alan, Brooks and Dunn, Vince Gill, Randy Travis, and many more, country music would be the shite we all heard in the early 80’s, like Juice Newton, Don Williams, Lee Greenwood, and the Oak Ridge Boys. Garth and his friends saved country music. Whatever the frick is out now in mainstream is pure crap minus a few like Stapleton, Pardi, Aaron Watson, Cody Johnson, and Little Big Town to name a few.

You know? What else do you know? What kind of music do I like?

I actually like all types of music and when I say I am not a big country fan, I just mean in general, I prefer other types of music ahead of country, but that doesn't mean I don't like it at all... Like I said, I am a huge George Strait fan. And people hate on Garth Brooks, but I bet they were listening to him in the early 90s just like everyone else, including myself.

And why highlight me saying what I said about doing what rap artist do? Am I wrong? Was I wrong when I said a lot of music artist have been or is being screwed over by these labels?

Some of you only read what you want to read.. I said they need to do like what some rap artist have done and you shut your brain down and and made your assumptions right there.

That’s not uncommon in any artist. They peak and are never the same.

Sometimes, when the hippity hop and COuntry collide, it's actually pretty damn good.

I don't think Garth was bad but he definitely opened the door for what we have now.

But I will agree with you that there was a ton of shite country music in the 80s.
