I’m guessing Bo was Alabama’s.

I'm gonna have to go with Bob Pettit for Louisiana.
He was the scoring champ in the SEC for the 3 seasons he played (averaging 27 ppg and 14 rebounds) and averaged 30+ ppg and 17 rebounds in his final year. He also led LSU to two SEC titles and their first Final Four while being named a 2-time All American.
But his pro career was more incredible. He played 11 years and was an all-star in every season and made the All-NBA 1st team 10 times. He is the only player who played more than 2 seasons to average over 20 points in every season he played (and he averaged 16 rebounds per game). He never finished lower than 7th in scoring and won two scoring titles. When he retired, he was the first player ever to reach 20,000 points and was 2nd in history in rebounding. He won the NBA all-star MVP title 4 times and led his team to an NBA title. He made the college and NBA Hall of Fame and was named one of the 50 best NBA players of all time. And most thought he wouldn't stand a chance in the NBA.

Yeah and I agree. But it is crazy the amount of legends that have come from the state.
Bo
Hank Aaron
Jesse Owen's
Satchel Paige
Willie May's
TO
Joe Louis
Barkley
Bart Starr
And on and on
Lots of great athletes have come from AL.

I warned in the subject line it was click bait. If that offends you, I have a simple solution for you - don't open the thread!

Ali for Kentucky is probably expected.

I'd add Carl Lewis and Evander Holyfield being from AL too. I have no problem with Bo, but Jesse Owens would have my vote.

You can make an argument that Rice is the best WR of all time.
Not much of an argument. What he did stat wise is insane considering they didn't have receiver friendly rules like they do now. It's him then everyone else.

I think Brady is the GOAT. It's hard to argue against that.
I mean, just compare these:

if your talking 'ships, Parrish, Bradshaw, Freddie Spencer??(joke) maybe, some pretty good hombres from La., Payton was pretty good, not sure if tops the list

They picked Jerry Rice for Mississippi. I probably would’ve went with Walter Payton,
Rice scored 207 touchdowns, Payton was great but didn't reach 100.

They have Phil Knight for Oregon with this caption

quote:
We are going to overlook the Nike founder’s horrendous athletic career on this one. While he was far from good on the gridiron, his apparel brand’s impact on the world of sports trumps the contributions of any athlete born in Oregon. Just Do It, Phil.

I would put Duke Kohanamoku in for HI and Steve Prefontaine for OR - if going by "greatest athlete" Deion is tough to beat for FL but I think Roy Jones Jr should be in the discussion. Sucks to be from MD because you probably have to be a multisport HOFer to take the spot away from Phelps

They really nailed Connecticut.

receiver friendly rules
it's hard for the young'n's to comprehend the significance of this v. today's athletes, not knocking the modern day athletes, you play with the cards you're dealt, but NFL rules up until the eighties were draconian, everyone on the field was fair game, and vicious hits, even cheap shots were celebrated and were a big part of the draw to the sport
