Yeah, I'm going to guess they were above capacity for that room. Also, the jumping up and down showed a lot of confidence in the structural integrity of that room.

It's a shame that there will be massive lawsuits over this incident and some contractor and structural engineer is going to have to defend themselves against this stupidity.

What is the minimum strength needed to pass inspection?
Certainly you can't expect an apartment floor to hold up to a high number of people jumping up and down.

I am assuming this is a cottages type of place

Shitty build with a nice pool to attract frat stars for a few years before the next best thing happens and then culture moves in.

Those places are built as cheap as possible, I wouldn’t put any faith in being even near capacity of which these people were surely over

It was the clubhouse at an apartment complex.

Inside the apartment should be designed to about 40psf of dead load while cooridors or areas of congregation should be designed for about 100 psf.

Idiots.

Comment from the news report...."police are now investigating what caused that floor to buckle"
Really, you need an investigation to figure that out? Lol
Wonder if the apartment complex will evict those particular tenants, I sure the hell would. Hope they had renters insurance, if that's even covered...

This reminded me of that wedding in Isreal some 15 or so years ago where many died. Lucky nobody below here was killed.
