higher KWH rate

The kWh rate is always fixed and does not vary with your claim of 'overall demand', you're talking about the variable cost of natural gas that floats with market price of gas. Thank the president for the absurd cost of natural gas the last 2 years.

Edit: Cleco has a summer rate and a flat winter rate, but I guarantee it's the same as last month.

The PSC sets those rates for every utility in the state and they only change every 5~10 years. Cleco had the same rate structure for over a decade until last summer.

Their customers had been paying the same rate in 2021 as they paid in 2011, which is probably too low to allow for any sort of infrastructure improvement with more efficient technology. Cleco has mostly coal generation, which is very cheap and efficient but there is little money to invest in new natural gas technology when our overlords deem coal too dirty.

Haven't we pretty much figured out that all of the electric companies are total fricking rackets? Now, it's not like you're going to turn all your shite off. You just write the check and move on.

Not necessarily.

Mine was .13/kwh in June, up from the May rate.

I don't have CLECO, however, I've been keeping a spreadsheet of our power bill since 2013. I track KWH used, total cost, cost per KWH. What I have found is that when I use less KW, they charge more per KWH. Conversely, the more KW I use, the less they charge per KWH. So trying to save energy is a big farce! They will get their $$ regardless.

We moved in the house in 08 and I noticed crazy irregularities in our power bill. So after a few years, I started doing things to the house to try to lower our bill. Added tinted window film on the south facing windows, put shades up on the back porch, insulated exterior wall electrical boxes, etc. So then I started tracking the results and now it's just become habit to track it. And I'm just a little OCD.

The utility companies are paying 3 times as much for natural gas as they did less than a year ago. As a business what should they do,?

It’s amazing how many people do not understand or bother to learn how their electric bill is calculated ! Do you understand that the cost of fuel is a major part of you bill. If it goes up , your bill substantially increases, if it goes down your bill decreases.

You’re missing a huge component in you spreadsheet and that is fuel cost and how it varies month to month !

I also have CLECO, and noticed the fuel cost in June per KWH was around .05, and just one month later it was a bit over .07 which is a large increase! The liberals don't realize that it takes fossil fuels for the electric companies' generators to provide electricity to consumers, especially as they plug their "green" EV's in to charge.

My bill this June was the highest I've ever recorded at $315 having used 2945 KW meaning I paid $.107/KWH. That's 2nd lowest KWH I've paid since 2013.

In June of 2015, I used 1692 KW and they charged me $.119/KWH.

Crude oil was about $60 barrel in 2015 and the national avg for a gallon of gas was around $2.75.

Another fun fact from my spreadsheet shows that in December of 2019, we only used 857 KW which is the lowest I've ever used in a month since I've been keeping track. Yet I was charged $.169/KWH which is the highest KWH charge since I've been keeping track.
