Class Action Lawsuit For Sunshine Bridge Fiasco

Just wondering if all the motorists who travel the bridge daily for work, business, etc. can recoup extra expenses they will incur from the barge company in a class action lawsuit?
It doesn't effect me personally but I feel for those who will be impacted by this calamity. I think they are entitled for compensation due to the inconvenience and extra money they will surely spend for driving way out of the way. After all, didn't a woman get a big reward from McDonald's once for being too stupid to realize that her coffee she just purchased was hot?

I’m loving not having to drive through traffic on LA-70 every day. To and from work is going to be a breeze for a little while. I’ll enjoy it.

I've read here about something called the Jones act. Anyone care to explain why the Jones act exists? I know it's probably to protect the barge operators and what not but why do they deserve protecting if they take down a bridge?

I am curious about the sugarcane truck drivers.
They get paid by the number of loads of sugarcane they are able to deliver, now that many of them have to go around, I am sure it is costing them big time. Friday, I saw about 6 or 7 sugarcane trucks hauling arse down HWY 1 towards Donaldsonville.

The Jones Act is a federal law that allows offshore/maritime workers (seamen) to sue their employees for being injured on the job
I'm not sure how it would protect barge operators who rammed into a bridge
There may be some provision somewhere in the Jones Act that Barge operators could rely on to mitigate their damages, but I admittedly do not know about it

It was the Liebeck v. McDonald's case. You should read it

Had a phone call with Stephen Wags to get his rebuttal talking point

I'm sure there will be lawsuits. I don't think it should apply to the motorist who are just pissed off, but if this drags on a long time, small businesses will suffer and may close. They should be compensated in some way.
