Yes. Or get Congress to pass a new law.

Do any school buses use the sunshine bridge? Now I can see that will have a big impact on families. If the parents have a much longer commute now and then the bus route cant be accommodated really may put a few families in a bind.

They are saying 4-6 months for completion. I hope there are no hiccups in the early stages of the project because the longer it drags on the more difficult it will be. If you're at 6 months and its March river will be rising with stronger current. Will be entering the stage soon of lowest water levels and the least amount of current in next 2 months. If it goes into March and April, it will be that more difficult to complete.

Re-read what I said. I don't know how to make it much clearer.

Should they get money for their time and inconvenience of having to take a longer route to work? No.

Should they get money for actual expenses incurred relating to the bridge being out, namely costs for additional fuel and vehicle maintenance costs? Yes.

As a reasonable person I think the barge company should pay for those folks' ACTUAL extra expenses that they are incurring due to the tugboat operator's negligence. A lot of people working retail jobs in the Gonzales outlet mall probably have to cross that bridge to get to/from work. Suddenly having an extra $200/month in expenses just to get to/from their job due to the bridge damage can really frick up the budget for someone working a $25-30k/year retail job. But I don't live over there or cross that bridge, so it doesn't affect me in the least. I'm just looking at how I think would be fair to the people who are affected

So why was BP held liable for people’s lost income / added expenses from their oil spill? By your logic, those fisherman didnt have to fish to make a living, they could just do something else.

Why should the company that owns the barge be held liable? What did they do wrong?

I’m curious to see what comes out about the pilot. Was a drug screen required after the accident? What was his work history and was he rested at the time?

I don’t think individuals who are inconvenience by this will get paid. Now, if anything out of the ordinary is found out, the state could very well sue the company to recover the cost of the repair.

Nothing. He’ll get fired and re hired by a different company.

Absolutely

It was a fleet boat. He was working his normal shift.

Nothing will happen to the Capt. If they found drugs or alcohol in his system the worse is that he’ll lose his license. He’s not on the hook for anytbing.

No. The insurance company will pay for the repairs.
