But can the company be held accountable for what their employees do while on the job?

And by accountable I mean if the state wanted to recover repair cost.

Nvm

But the insurance that the company has. Still can be obtained thru a suit.

They will be. Their insurance company will cover the cost of repairs and raise their premiums

Bridges and locks are hit by tows pretty frequently and traffic is diverted.

When a tow hits and damages a lock, the lock has to shut down sometimes for months. That results in other tows for the the time it takes to repair the locks to take an alternative route which is usually a much longer route and cost the company more time and money.

You think other companies, including major oil companies have a right to a class action law suit against the boat company that hit the locks or bridges?

Same goes for the railroad.

If anyone thinks there’s going to be a class action law suit filed and won in this case, you are delusional

Oh I agree with you. Commuters won’t get a cent. The only people getting paid will be the state.

It does suck for the people that live and work on just one side or the other of the bridge and will now have to take an alternate route that may be an extra hour or so added to their commute.

Those people I’m not as concerned with. The small businesses in the west side is who I am mainly worried about

As residents and taxpayers, couldn't it be argued tjey have a "proprietary interest" in the Bridge?

Yeah I agree. There’s a lot of small businesses right there.

Also, think about the traffic nightmare it’s going to cause in 2 weeks for the Alabama game.

Sure, and our collective custodial entity, the State, will collect for the damage to our collective property.

You, personally, do not own 1/4,000,000th of that bridge.

Wouldn’t the state be the toll bridge owner? Would they be compensated for loss of tolls?

Oh, I see what you’re saying. Yes, I think the state would have a very good argument for the economic loss of the tolls

I like how we are now in a world where you can openly say something doesn’t effect you but you can still publically opine on what should happen on other’s behalf.

Saw the sugar industry speculatively mentioned. 3 mills closest to the bridge (Cora, Lula & Westfield) will be impacted the most.

Independent cane truck owner/operators are few and far between anymore. Mill owned fleets and large contract haulers, Gravois for example, are the norm with some growers delivering their own crop in their own trucks.

Nevertheless, there is an increased cost being borne by someone. Estimates from a counterpart of mine works out to no less than 250 extra man hours per day.

If you were in business and had to foot the bill for an extra 25,000 hours, would you explore your options for getting those costs covered?
