A package of measures aimed at investigating Entergy New Orleans’ decisions before and during Hurricane Ida, and geared towards eventually studying options for severing the city’s ties with its power provider, received unanimous approval from the New Orleans City Council on Thursday.
quote:
The most direct response to those failures will be a review of Entergy’s performance during the storm. The inquiry, conducted by the city's consultants on electrical regulation, is expected to take between 60 and 90 days.
quote:
Paired with the resolution that will result in a report was a resolution urging the state Public Service Commission and federal regulators to investigate whether Entergy Louisiana – which handles the company’s electrical services throughout the rest of the state – did enough to ensure its transmission lines could stay up during a hurricane.
quote:
Another non-binding resolution warned Entergy New Orleans that the council would only agree to raise customers’ bills to pay for the storm recovery “after a careful evaluation of proposed increases to ensure such costs are reasonable and prudent and not a result of any failure of Entergy New Orleans to adequately maintain and strengthen the utility infrastructure.”
quote:
Finally, the council approved measures to develop criteria for a management audit of Entergy New Orleans and put out a bid for contractors who could produce a report on alternatives to the power company.

Moar studies!
What will this cost?

It is going to be hilarious when the city takes over as power provider.

Part of me really wants that to happen too

I think entergy did a great job. I mean they had stuff back on line in a week and a half after a catastrophic failure. That’s pretty good.

What people don’t realize is all this means is Entergy will maintain generation and transmission, the city will take over distribution and buy the power from Entergy on the wholesale market. The city will then be responsible for all maintenance of distribution facilities within the city limits and will bill the end use customers at a rate greater than what they pay Entergy.
If the citizens of NO think that’s a better arrangement….

NOPSI 2.0 incoming ….. am I right?
Those who don’t learn from history are bound to repeat it. Why doesn’t NOPSI still exist ?

Entergy already told them they’d be glad to GTFO. City Council is just asking for it at this point

Yeah, I don't know what they are
probing. I don't even hear people complaining about Entergy's performance locally following the storm. They did well.
I heard way more people complaining about Cox Cable, aT&T and the trash that still isn't being picked up in many places.

Entergy would stomp a sack of kittens to get out out of NOLA.
The vegetation remediation requirements are so ridiculous as to be counter productive. Which, I kind of agree with you don’t want 100 year old oaks to get butchered but this is the result when you get a windstorm
the alternative (underground) is so massively expensive (and in many cases impossible regardless of cost) that Entergy is in a no win situation. Put regulatory incompetence and graft on top of that and well...Entergy is a about to say “see ya”
And as the poster above pointed out they’ll still be the power generation monopoly. It’s not like the city council is going to build themselves a power plant

I’m not a huge fan of Entergy generally but they knocked it out of the fricking park with their Ida response.

This is just the city council attacking the biggest company they can that they actually have some authority over as a distraction or some empty show of force for their constituents. This trash disaster is easily the biggest lingering effect from the hurricane.

Entergy New Orleans' Ida response
You mean getting the entire city back up and running in under 2 weeks after a direct hit from a Cat 5?
What’s the probe going to find? Applause?
New Orleans is a pathetic raging dumpster fire of incompetence and corruption led by a pathetic rabid lunatic from California

“Stay up” sounds very technical and professional.

New Orleans running the electric utility?
what a shitshow that would be!

Agreed. NOPSI was a relic of the corruption that existed from when NOLA was great.
For whatever reason NOLA seems big on returning all of these privatizated businesses and employees to the city rosters.
