The risk of wiping out the entire tribe is a bit exaggerated. The biggest killer of indigenous peoples in America was smallpox. That's not really an issue anymore. Yeah they could be more susceptible to the flu, but it's probably not as much of a risk as they suggest.

Its actually not really exaggerated at all because they can't treat minor things, which worsen to pneumonia and things like that.

Sure, if they contracted minor things and were treated with medicine, they'd be just fine, but they'd treat the flu or a bad cold with a fire dance and blood sacrifice.

There is evidence in this case along with the case of two fisherman in early 2000s that suggests that they Sentinlese are not cannibals.

They probably aren't but It's worth noting that they apparently buried the fishermen and then dug them back up a week later and tied their bodies to bamboo and that was the last anybody saw of those bodies.

The cops are waiting to see if they do the same thing with this dude, mostly to just officially verify that he's dead.

That's how I treat the flu. Hasn't failed me yet.

I got caught up reading about this tribe too. Apparently they’ve lived there for 55,000 years and there are only 50-200 of them on the island. Crazy that they’ve survived this long without being wiped out.

All this publicity and attention on this tribe will only encourage an entirely new group of idiots to try and make it on the island. They’ll do it for attention on social media.

We are eating tide pods for crying out loud.

I don't get it. If God wanted these people to know about Him, why did this guy have to go preach? Surely, the omnipotent, omnipresent God of Christianity could've done this without a mere mortal approaching an aggressive tribe?

I believe this is 100% correct. It's unfortunate that this dumb frick will be the end of this tribe. Leave these people alone.

This was my first thought when I first heard the news. India is going to have to get serious about keeping folks away from the island, or else it’s going to become some new dumbass social media “challenge”... CHAULLENGE. OH MY GOD, IT WORKS OUT PERFECTLY.

They have probably existed for so long by killing off members like this so that they will not infect the rest of the tribe. Think about it... Every act of procreation is also incest. That leads to a good bit of malformations. I wonder if they kill the babies so that the malformations will not be passed on to next generation.

I dunno, I can’t imagine anyone trying to go there except for particularly loony people. I mean this guy got shot with a damn arrow and he still went back

He also claimed the arrow hit his bible which he was holding up to his chest and that saved his life.

Which was a sign he needed to go back.

You can't fix stupid.

the stupid shite people do in the name of religion never ceases to amaze me. He doesn't deserve to be found. He was a fool and his legacy for being a fool should be the torment he will cause his loved ones as his body shall not be recovered. But no one else needs to die- directly or indirectly- because this arse hat was a fool.

I fell down a rabbit hole about the Sentelinese a few months ago. Blows my mind all the stuff we "dont know" about them, yet the useless shite countries spend their money on. We dont know the number of inhabitants on the island, but we, and Im assuming India as well, have infrared cameras on planes. Fly over, at a safe altitude, video, count. Seems simple enough. If we are worried about the risk of disease from a dead white man, drop medicine with pictogram descriptions, if they choose to ignore it, so be it. More could be done to try and make contact, but we choose not to.

All that being said, the guy was an idiot, and I agree, does not deserve to be recovered.
