BR has a lot that stay especially if you’re family is already at the top of the social economic ladder. BR is a shite hole but it can be nice if you live in a golden bubble and it’s easier to be a big fish in a small pond.
BR is the capital and thus a lot of State jobs.

This is very true. One of buddies graduated with an engineering degree from LSU and married a Lafayette girl. Got into O&G and had a lot of opportunities to go the company's offices in Houston, Denver, or Pittsburgh. Kind of stuck where he is because his wife can't be more than 8 miles away from her mom who lives in Broadmoor.
Thankfully his boss is pretty lenient even though he's a true "company man." He let's him travel to Houma, Houston, and Denver for special projects but he will probably retire in the next 2 to 4 years. Unless they start drilling in the Gulf a lot more, he might have an ultimatum.

Houston is obviously the largest single destination. I've met people from Louisiana all over the country but Houston is definitely where the biggest cluster outside of Louisiana is

its not that, its that they depending on what they major in, they can get a good education without racking up debt and McNeese does a great job working with certain industries to help grads get placed.
McNeese's Engineering program is really good. Our interns from there tend to be better than the ones from other places on average. same with new hires
I will say this, if you are wanting to stay in the Lake Charles Area after college....then going to McNeese is a great option. and I have had offers from all over the country even though I am only a lowly McNeese grad. Nobody cares where you graduated from once you get in the job market.

also what he said is completely wrong. all you have to do is look at the numbers of people that leave LC metro compared to other areas of the state.

I honestly like Thibodaux. Wouldn't have minded trying to raise a family there if work/career could have cooperated. The town has improved, from my small sample viewpoint, very well over the past 15-20 years.

Man, I always miss home until I actually go back there and see what a shite hole it's become, then I can't wait to leave. A month or so later, I'm homesick again. It's great to head back and visit, but I don't want to live there. Maybe I'll get a camp closer to "home" so I don't have to rely on staying with my family but not be a permanent fixture in the community.
