Read something earlier today that Shreveport is #1 in the Country for highest percentage of residents that graduate College and never go back to where they're from.
Was trying to figure out the inverse of this question.
You know other than like Mandeville, I think this is a full state problem.

seems like a lot of people from Lafayette stay in Lafayette

Not Lake Charles.
Blue collar city. The majority of the white collar jobs for the businesses there reside in Houston. Luckily lake Charles sells liquor 24/7 and has the casinos. Keeps the ambulance chasers alive.
The aging population is always keeping the medical segment afloat.

I think this would likely have two different answers, depending on how the question is framed. I would assume that people who go to college in their home towns have a much higher rate of remaining in those places than people who leave home for college, but that comparison doesn’t seem apples to apples.

All 3 of my kids left Alexandria, never to return. I think a fair amount of kids in BR and NO stay, but once they see bigger cities in other states it’s hard to keep ‘em down on the farm.

I was born and raised in the port city. I left. Everyone I went to school with that ended up worth a shite left. Only people who stayed are a handful that inherited a family business. They always said don’t let the young people leave out of town to vacation b/c they all will leave if they see other people don’t have to watch their back to be robbed while pumping gas…

This is anecdotal but our state rep from WP spoke at a graduation I was at and begged the kids to stay in Louisiana. He even mentioned the big space investment that’s coming to Louisiana soon.
As you your question, WP has a lot of college grads that stay, but they work in Covington or even SW Mississippi.

The Lake Charles metro is very obsessed with McNeese, although I think UL-L may have us beat

Thibodaux is a great answer. It’s amazing how many kids leave and go to college (not just Nicholls, but also other state colleges and out of state colleges), and then return to live, get married, raise kids there, etc. Some might make fun of it, but that town must be doing something right.
Someone said Mandeville - being from and now living there, I don’t see it nearly as much as Thibodaux. Pros and cons to both I guess.

I would assume if you have to leave your city for college, the odds decrease that you would return.
Shreveport doesn’t have a “real” college option.

If my job had taken me anywhere but Houston, chances would be a lot higher we would not have come back. Both our families being from the same area and that area being one of the best areas in the state led us back recently.
I would love to live someplace with 4 seasons.
