Circle K Bum Association of Baton Rouge

So I stopped at a Circle K in BR for gas on my way home today. A taxi van pulls up to the door and three people get out - a girl and 2 guys, all looking rough. It looked like one or two other people got back into the cab when it left.
The 3 that just arrived stand out front smoking/bullshitting with each other for a minute. Then the girl sits down next to the entrance and pulls out her cardboard “give me money” sign. One of the guys starts trekking down the street, I guess to go man an intersection. The other guy goes inside Circle K right as I’m heading in to grab something to drink. He buys a drink and a couple of packs of cigarettes.
When I walk back outside, the girl sitting by the door is in full “look at how pathetic I am” mode. As I get back into my car to leave, I see the guy hand the girl a pack of cigarettes. The girl reaches into her purse and hands the guy her iPhone and a charger. I guess his assigned store front has a power outlet?
CSB, I know. But seriously - WTF? In hindsight I wish I had video taped the whole thing because it was so absurd. I’ve always suspected/heard that many of these panhandlers were scamming, but this was the most egregious example I’ve ever seen in person. They are fricking cabbing around BR for shift change.

People who give these assholes money are the problem, not the bums

It is well known that the bums of Baton Rouge are driven around by their pimp who takes a cut of the money

Here in Memphis I’ve seen a lot of people begging lately with kids as props. Pretty disturbing.

When I see them out by a store, I just pretend to have a have an intense conversation on the phone so I don't hear them begging for money.

Airline & Bluebonnet? They sit out front by the bagged ice freezer and charge their pphone. One was sleeping in the car wash the other morning. Portable A/C in his bike buggy.

I saw this guy in Gonzales sitting on a curb on Piccadilly property. Said his name was George and he had diabetes. I gave him a handful of glucose tablets from my bag and thirty dollars. I don’t know if this guy was a scammer or not. I tried to help but I hope that I wasn’t being played.

Circle K beggars aren't a monolithic group. You have scammers, legit homeless people with subgroups of their own, and transients. The later usually works in groups and has systems in place on how to go about doing things.
They travel all over the damn place. I've seen some jump on a train near downtown on Choctaw dr. They looked like they knew what they were doing.

I saw the same a-hole at 3 different gas stations all within 8-10 miles of each other over a month. I told him to make a u-turn when he first approached me and he did. At another gas station he came around the back of my Yukon at the gas pump and I recognized him and asked if he remembered me. I mentioned the u-turn comment and he shrugged and mumbled some shite. The 3rd time was at another gas station and I just raised my shirt so he’d see my CC weapon. He just turned and walked off.
I despise these mofos.

Anyone standing out in this heat in the middle of the day with no shade on a concrete island earns his pay...

If you say I got played, I am going to find this MiFo and kick the living shite out of this old man. He’s got an arse whipping coming. If you see me on the news in AP, it was me.
I just killed ole Georgie boy. I’ll smash his bicycle in half too.

They are essential front line workers.

I was at the Race Trac and a car pulls up with about 5 people in the car and one gets out and comes up to me asking for gas money so they can get back to Georgia
It's why I don't bring cash with me to the gas station. No telling how many gas stations they hit that day.

Most of y’all won’t have been around long enough to remember this but several years ago there was a well dressed white guy working his way around Baton Rouge with a “my car broke down” scam. He managed to hit up several people on the OT and it became an ongoing thread about this dude. St. Paddy’s day morning we were all down by the overpass at our party spot and sure enough the guy rolls up. Description from the OT matched and his story matched. Half drunk me starts yelling “motherfricker, you are the guy from Tigerdroppings” and he just turns and walks off. Power of the OT all the way.
100% these people are organized. Stop giving them money.
